Abstract: The present study entitled "Developing Grammatical competence Through Group Work" is an attempt to find out the effectiveness of group work in developing grade nine students' grammatical competence. In order to carry out this study, I selected thirty six students of grade nine of Gyanodaya English School using non-random purposive sampling procedure. For the study, I used them as primary sources of data. The primary data were collected from all the thirty six students of grade nine of the school. After selecting the sample population, a pre-test was administered to determine the students' initial proficiency on the selected items.Then twenty one lessons were taught using group work technique. During that period, two progressive tests were administered at the interval of seven lessons and finally a post-test was administered. Through the analysis and interpretation of the collected data it was found that group work was really an effective technique in developing grammatical competence of the students. This study incorporates four main chapters and other many sub-chapters. The first chapter deals with the general background of the study, review of the related literature, objectives and significance the study. Similarly,the second chapter consists of the methodology(sources of data, primary sources of data, secondary sources of data, population of the study and sampling procedure), tools for data collection,process of data collection and limitations of the study. Likewise third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of data, analysis of individual test scores obtained from four tests including pre-test and post-test and analysis and interpretation of item wise correct and incorrect responses on the four tests including pre-test and post-test.In the same way, the fourth chapter presents findings and recommendations of the study based on the analysis of the collected data. Finally, the last part of the study includes references and appendices.
