Abstract: The present study was conducted to examine the“Effectiveness ofContent-Based Instruction in Teaching Reading.”The objective of the study wastofind out the effectiveness of content-based instruction inteaching reading.Thisstudy was conducted in Shree Chandrodaya Higher secondary School Kamane,Hetauda.The students of grade 9 were taken as the sample of the study. First,Iadministered a pre-test using the test items in the beginning and on the basis ofthe result of pre-test, experimental teaching was started.Three progressivetests were administered in the interval of seven class periods each. Itaught for25 days using content-based instruction method. The action research wasconducted to find out the strengths and weaknessesof content-basedinstruction on teaching reading. After the completion of teaching, a post-testwas administered .The results of both the tests were compared to determine theeffectiveness of content-based instruction on teaching reading. Content-basedinstruction was found to be effectivein teaching reading. This thesis work consists of four chapters. Chapter one is an introductorychapter which includes general background, objectives of the study, review ofthe related literature and the significance of the study. Chapter two provides thedetails of the methodology and the procedures followed by the researcher in thecollection of theprimary as well secondary data.It particularly consists ofsources of data, sampling procedures, tools for data collection, process of datacollection and limitations of the study.Chapter three consists of analysisandinterpretation of the data.The data wereanalyzed and interpreted on the basisof the average score in the pre-test and post-test. The last chapter describes the 9 findings and recommendations derived from this research. This chapter isfollowed by the references and appendices respectively.
