The present research makes an effort to analyze the ‘language functions covered in the English textbooks of grade one’ in terms of language functions prescribed in the curriculum. This research was based on only the secondary sources of data. The data was collected from the English textbooks of grade one published by Curriculum Development Centre, Vidyarthi Prakasan, Ekata Publication, Satyal Publication and Ratna Pustak Bhandar. The required data was collected using observation as the data collection tool. The main findings of this study show that the language functions prescribed in the curriculum have been covered in the textbooks of different publications. ‘My English Book’ has covered all the language functions prescribed in the curriculum. Also, the textbook ‘Lotus English Reader’ published by Vidyarthi Prakashan has covered maximum number of forms and structures, examples and exercises in a suitable illustrative way than other textbooks of different publications. This thesis is composed of four chapters and each chapter has been divided into necessary headings and sub-headings. Chapter one deals with general background with language functions, communicative functions, classification of communicative functions, form-function correlation, the relationship between curriculum and textbook. Literature review, objectives of the study and significance of the study are the other titles under the chapter. Chapter two presents the methodology of the study, sources of data, sampling procedure and tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitation of the study. Chapter three consists of the analysis and interpretation of the collected data. The comparison has been done between the English textbooks and the curriculum. Chapter four presents the findings and recommendations based on analysis and interpretation of this study.en_US
