Abstract: This research study entitledForms of Welcoming, Thanking and ExpressingGratitude andGood Wishes in English and Doteliis an effort to find out thedifferentforms of welcoming, thanking and expressinggratitudeandgoodwishes inDoteli; and compare and contrast them with the forms used inEnglish.For this research study,Itook sample population from two VDCsnamely, Tijali and Jiljodamandauof Doti district consisting of 80 nativespeakers of Doteli. Sample population were selected using judgmental non-random sampling procedure. The major tool for collection of data wasquestionnaire. A set of questionnaire was prepared and it was administered intwo different ways. One way is that the questionnaireswere distributed to theeducated Doteli people the other way is uneducated Doteli people wereinterviewed. Later on, I analyzed and interpreted the data and compared thefindings with the Englishlanguage. This research showed that the nativespeakers of Doteli use 'āsa + T.N./K.T. + basa', 'ās + F.N./K.T. + bas', 'baisekchha + T.N./hajur', etc. for welcoming, 'syābās', 'khub niko aryā / ari','tamlāi/tulāidhanyabād', etc.for thanking and expressinggratitude and 'tamlāi /tulāi bhaut bhaut shubhakāmanā chhā', 'tamaro/tero manko sochyā pura hou','bhagamānale tamaro/tero rakshā arun', etc. for expressing good wishes todifferent people. Doteli people do not use same formstoaddressseniors andjuniors. So, while teaching the Doteli dialect as a second language, thefocusshould be given to the use of proper forms for seniors and juniors. The study consists of four chapters. Chapter one includes general background,review of related literature, objectives of the study and significance of thestudy. Chapter two dealswith the methodology applied to carryout the researchunder which sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection,process of data collection and limitations of the study are presented. Chapterthree presents the analysis and interpretationof the data. And fourth chapterdeals with the findings and recommendations of this research work. Finally,chapter four is followed by the references and appendices.
