Abstract: The present study entitled “Effectiveness of Role playing technique for Developing Communicative Functions” in a private English boarding school in Dhanusha district is aimed to explore the communicative skill. I used both primary and secondary sources of data. The primary data was elicited from the thirty students of grade 10 of Vinayak Higher Secondary English Boarding School, Dhalkewar by administrating pre-test, post-test, and progressive tests. The process used in collecting data was recommended by Burns (1999). After analyzing and interpreting the data, I found that the use of role-playing in developing communicative functions is an effective technique in the case of secondary level students. The study consists of four chapters. The first chapter introduces the study in terms of general background, review of related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology adopted for the study. The third chapter presents analysis and interpretation in terms of ‘analysis of individual tests scores on pre-test, post-test, and progressive tests and also the analysis of the scores on the individual test items. The fourth chapter lists the findings and suggested recommendations related to the study. Finally, it includes the references and appendices.
