Abstract: The present study entitled “A Textbook Analysis of Lotus English Reader Grade V” is an attempt to analyze the textbook in terms of its physical and academic aspects. This study was a descriptive research in nature in which collected data was analyzed and interpreted quantitatively. To complete this study, the researcher used both primary and secondary sources of data collection. The primary sources of data were the 40 subject teachers who are teaching Lotus English Reader Grade V in different private schools of Taplejung, Panchathar, Ilam and Jhapa districts. The teachers were selected using non-random purposive sampling procedure. The main secondary source of data was the textbook itself. To obtain the data, a set of questionnaire was prepared after a detail study of the book for the teachers. The collected data was tabulated and analyzed using a simple statistical tool, i.e. percentage. The findings of the study are based on the responses made by the teachers. The major findings are that the cover page and the layout of the book are attractive, 70% of the respondents agreed with this but the binding of the book is not durable according to them. The objectives of the book are suitable to the present society’s demand and they aim to develop communicative competence in the learners. Seventy percent of the respondents have positive view on it. But glossary, a very important part of a language textbook, is excluded that all teachers have negative response on it. The language functions and structures given in the book are applicable to day-to-day on teaching/learning. Sixty percent of the respondents accepted it. This work consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with the study of general backgrounds, review of related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology that consists of sources of data, sampling procedures, tools of data collection, procedure of data collection and limitations of the study respectively. Similarly, third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of data collected from different sources. This chapter is divided into two sections; the first section deals with the teachers’ responses on closed type of questions and second section deals with teachers’ open responses on the qualities of the textbook. Finally, the fourth chapter deals with the findings and recommendations for further improvements of the textbook. References and appendices have been given at the end.
