This study entitled ‘Activities Used by the Teachers While Teaching Reading skills’ attempts to find out the activities used by the teachers while teaching reading in proficiency certificate level in Kathmnadu District. Fifty students were selected by using random sampling procedure and five teachers from five different PCL campuses were selected by judgmental sampling procedure for the study. Similarly, observation checklists and survey opinionnaires were used as the research tools. The researcher found that guessing the topic and providing the reasons for reading are good pre-reading activities. Fill in the blanks, T/F statements and comprehension question are good while reading activities and summarizing the text is good post-reading activity. Similarly, he also identified that presenting unfamiliar vocabularies and writing sign-post questions are tolerable pre-reading activities, scanning, skimming and jigsaw reading are tolerable while reading activities and role- play, discussion and debate are tolerable post-reading activities. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with introduction which consists of general background, literature review, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology used in the study: the sources of data, (both primary and secondary), sample populations and sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of the data to find out the activities used by the teachers while teaching reading skills at PCL level. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted by using frequency distribution table, bar-diagrams and pie-charts. The fourth chapter presents the findings derived from the analysis and the interpretation of the data. It also suggests some recommendations on the basis of the findings. The final section of the study includes the references and appendices.en_US
