Title: Lao PDR and ADB: Celebrating 50 Years of Partnership
Authors: ADB
Issue Date: Sep-2017
Description: This commemorative publication presents the highlights of the development partnership between the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and ADB over the past 50 years. The Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) has come a long way the past years. The poverty headcount has declined from almost half of the population to below a quarter within 2 decades (1993–2013). The economy expanded on average by 6.5% per year between 1990 and 2010 and 7%–8% between 2011 and 2015. The government is committed to achieving the objectives outlined in the Eighth Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan, Sustainable Development Goals, and the goal of graduating from least developed country status by 2020. Today, the Government of the Lao DPR enjoys constructive working relationships with ADB and has benefited from development cooperation, particularly in development and expansion of irrigation systems; improvement of health and living standards; and the provision of support in water supply, sanitation, healthcare system, hydropower development, education, and human resource development. This publication contains text in two languages, English and Lao.
