dc.description.abstractThis work entitled “English Code Mixing in the Tamang Language” is an attempt to give on overall image of code mixing in the Tamang language in Nepal. And it is hoped that it provides crucial ideas to the concerned person and intuitions. The objectives of the study are to find out the English expressions mixed in the Tamang language and to analyze the mixed expressions. The sample population consists of the Tamang language speakers from Ghurkauli VDC. They are from different family background, literacy status, sex groups, and different age group. They are forty altogether. Publications such as Gorkhapatra Daily, Hyangla Kai and Chhar Gongma are also taken as the source of data. Purposive sampling procedure is used to select the sample of the study. Observation and audio cassette recording are the tools for the data collection. The conclusion of the study is that English expressions are mixed in the Tamang language. It is because sometimes the speakers can not find appropriate terms in their mother tongue and sometimes they want to be superior among the other people. English code mixing in the Tamang language is developing day by day and it may have negative impact too on the native speakers of Tamang language. This study contains four chapters. The first chapter consists of general background which describes the language, discuss the code mixing and code switching with their reasons and differences. The introduction to the Tamang language and its origin and literature review. The objectives and significance of the study and definitions of terms are also mentioned in the first chapter. In the second chapter, methodology of the study has been included. It also consists of tools and process of data collection and limitations of the study. In the third chapter, collected data has been analyzed and interpreted on the basis of different linguistic units, mixed English expressions and literacy based description. Findings of the study, recommendations and pedagogical implications have been mentioned in the fourth chapteren_US
