Abstract: This study attempts to find out the effectiveness of discovery technique in teaching English tense. The students of governmental aided school, Narayan Secondary School, Nepalgunj were involved in this study. The researcher prepared objectives test items i.e. multiple choice and fill in the blanks which contained items in the present, past and future tenses. All the items were taken from the English Textbook of Grade IX. There were 60 items for 60 full marks. First she gave a pre-test to 40 students and divided them into two groups (i.e. odd and even) as an 'experimental' group and 'controlled' group on the basis of marks obtained in the pre test. Then she taught both the groups and gave post-test using the same test items. The discovery technique in teaching tense was found effective as the experimental group performed better by 47 percent in total performance than the controlled group. This thesis comprises of four chapters. The first chapter presents general background, review of the related literature, objectives of study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with methodology adopted while carrying out the study. It includes sources of data, primary and secondary, sample population, tools of data collection, process of data collection and limitations of study. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of data and the fourth chapter presents findings and recommendations drawn on the basis of analysis and interpretation of data.
