dc.description.abstractIn this research, the researcher has made an effort to describe and analyze theEnglishcode mixed in the Kantipur Daily in terms of word class, sentence types andnews types.Only secondary sources of data were used for the research.The sampledpopulation of the research were the ten regular issues of the Kantipur Daily from 1 ofAshwin to the 10 th of Ashwin 2063. The researcher used the technique of judgmentalor purposive non-random sampling. He collected the data by using the observationsheets as research tool. Then simple statistical tools like frequency and percentagewere used to describe and analyze the data. This study found out that Code-mixing in the Kantipur Daily is a natural andregular phenomenon. Regarding the word class, nouns were maximally used followedby adjectives, verbs and adverbs respectively. Regarding news type, the sports newscontained the greatest number of mixed English words. No any sentences were foundto be mixed. The study found out that the use of abbreviated words was alsoremarkable. This study is composed of fourchapters. Every chapter consists necessaryheadings and sub-headings. The first chapter is 'Introduction'. It consists of generalbackground, an overview of code-switching and code-mixing, factors leading to code-switching, introduction to journalism, history of journalism, and introduction to theKantipur Daily, classification of news in the Kantipur Daily, fundamentals oflanguage structure, word and its classes, word formation process, review of relatedliterature, objectives of the study, significance of the study and definition of specificterms. Chapter two consists of the methodology used to carry out the research. Underthis, sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of datacollection and limitation of the study are incorporated. Chapter three describes and analyzes the data. The data are analyzed anddescribed by using the statistical tools like tables, frequency, percentage etc. The fourth chapter incorporates the findings, pedagogical implications and recommendations of the study. The references and appendices are also included at the end.en_US
