dc.description.abstractThis study entitled"Chamling and English Kinship Terms: A ComparativeStudy”attempts to find out Chamling kinship terms used for variousrelationsand compare these with English kinship relations. To accomplish the objectivesof the study,the researcher collected data from the Chamling native speakers ofLekharka VDC of Bhojpur District. The sample size of the study consisted of 60Chamling native speakers who were selected using purposive samplingprocedure. An interview schedulewas used tocollect Chamling kinship terms.The study shows that Chamling kinship terms are rich in comparison withEnglish kinship terms. English has various cover terms such as cousin, siblings,offspring,etc.Whereas such cover terms are rarely found in Chamling. There isno any distinction between the terms used by male and female ego except thetwo terms ‘husband' and 'wife' in English whereas Chamling has distinctivekinship terms on the basis of male and female ego. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with generalbackground, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significanceof the study and definition of various kinship terms. The second chapter includes sources of data, research tools and process of data collection, and limitation of the study. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of the data obtained.Lastly, the fourth chapter comprises findings and recommendation of the thesis.en_US
