dc.description.abstractThis thesis entitled “KINSHIP TERMS IN ENGLISH AND KOYEE RAI” presents a clearpicture of comparative study between Koyee Rai and English Kinship Terms. The presentstudy includes both consanguineal and affinal types across five generations from bothperspectives viz, male and female ego in Koyee Rai and English for this purpose, theresearcher collected data from Koyee Rai from Sungdel and Dipsung V.D.Cs of KhotangDistrict of Eastern Nepal. The sample population of this study consists of ‘eighty nativespeakers’ of Koyee Rai who are inhabitant of Sungdel and Dipsung V.D.Cs. To obtainrequired data, questionnaires were distributed to sample population using ‘non-randomjudgmental sampling’ procedures. He further consulted secondary sources like books,magazines, journals and theses related to the topic. The main objectives of the study was tofind out the Koyee Rai terms used to refer to various kinship relations across five generationsaltogether and to compare and contrast Koyee Rai consanguineal and affinal kinship termswith the terms in English and to suggest some pedagogical implications. The major findingsare that the Koyee Rai language is rich in terms of kinship terms in comparision to theEnglish language. And the systems of Koyee Rai terms and English terms have therelationship of ‘Mono-Koyee Rai vs. Multi-English and Mono-English vs. Multi-Koyee Rai.’In addition to this, there is a slight difference between one-to-one correspondent relationshipof the appellative and addressive forms to signify the same relation of given languages. The study consists of four chapters. Each chapter, in turn, has been divided into various sub-chapters. Chapter one consists of introduction with general background, review of the relatedliterature, objectives of the study, significance of the research and definition of the study.Chapter two deals with methodology of research work. It is sub-divided into sources of data,total population of the study, sample population, tools for data collection, process of datacollection and limitations of the study. Likewise chapter three consists of analysis andinterpretation of the study. This chapter mainly consists of Koyee Rai and English kinship terms, correlation between Koyee Rai and English kinship terms and comparision ofconsanguineal relations in reference. Likewise chapter four is for findings, recommendationsand pedagogical implications of the study. The appendices are the concluding parts of thestudy.en_US
