Abstract: Amsterdam, a widely acclaimed novel of Ian McEwan, brilliantly captures the theme of dark side of human psyche thereby showing possessive nature and sexual dissatisfaction among Molly's lovers that generates the male-rivalry among them which ultimately leads all of them to destruction. Molly's death brings her former lovers to her funeral ceremony, where three of them, obsessively discuss the experience of sexual encounter with her. Their friendship which is established after Molly's death ends in a tragic disaster due to the manifestation of their latent dark psyche.
