Abstract: The thesis entitled "Honorificity in Tharu and English" makes a comparison of the honorificity used in Tharu and English languages. It explores how the native speaker of the two languages make choice of the honorificity, the words used to honor somebody in speech keeping in mind various factors like age, sex relation, social status, culture etc related to speaker and listener. It compares the forms of honorificity for proper noun, pronouns, verbs, addressive forms and titles and other persons in Tharu community. The data was collected from seventy five native speakers of Tharu in Sunsari using random sampling procedure. The sources of data for the forms of hanorificity in English were based on the previous research carried out in the department of English Education .The researcher found out that Tharu language is richer in the honorificity to English as it contains the forms that are not found in English like, 'rai', 'gau', 'hau', 'yau', 'ji','tai','tait','yaichha', ..........etc. The system of honoring people in two languages differs in most of the cases. Usually, kinship terms have addressee use in Tharu but first names are more prominent in English.
