dc.description.abstractThe present study is an attempt to find out the proficiency of the students of Bachelor Level 3 rd year in understanding the headlines of English newspapers in Nepal. The researcher collected the data by using test items and questionnaire, from the students of six colleges in Chitwan district. The data were analysed and results were compared sex wise, faculty wise and on the basis of test items using statistical tools. Student sare found to have medium proficiency in understanding newspaper headlines. Girls are found to be slightly less proficient than boys.Students of institutes are found to be more proficient than the students of faculties. The thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one introduces the study with general background, literature review, objectives of the study,significance and definitions of the terms.Chapter two deals with methodology which was followed to carry out there search work. It talks about the data sources, population and sample size, tools used for data collection, procedure of data collection and limitations of the study .Chapter three presents the analysis and interpretation of the data. This chapter makes use of statistical tools like tables, charts and percentage.Chapter four draws out some findings on the basis of the analysis made in chapter three. Some suggestions have also been listed on the basis of the findings.References and appendices supplement the concluding part of the thesis.en_US
