Abstract: This thesis entitled “Brainstorming for Developing Writing” is an effort to find out whether the brainstorming strategies are helpful in writing composition or not. The study attempted to analyze the attitude of the students towards writing composition as well as their practice of using brainstorming while writing have been judged through different tests, practices and critical categories. The study was divided into two parts i.e. attitudinal survey and use of brainstorming while teaching. The first part included the attitude of students towards writing and using different strategies for effective writing whereas the second part was concerned with the study on the effectiveness of brainstorming strategies in writing composition. For the attitudinal survey, 40 students from North Star Boarding School, Myagdi were selected and for examining the use of brainstorming techniques only 20 students were selected. Before starting teaching using brainstorming techniques, the students were given pre-test to determine their command, level and understanding on writing composition. After analyzing the scores of pre-test, real teaching was started for four weeks. After teaching for four weeks, the post-test was given using different set of post-test. The results of pre-test and post test were analyzed to determine the effectiveness of brainstorming techniques. The findings of this study showed that teaching brainstorming techniques were really useful for developing writing skills, for being creative and generating ideas through such techniques. The pre-test result shows that students scored only 389 (38.9%) marks whereas the post-test mark was 694 (69.4%). The post-test result proves that the brainstorming has been really fruitful for generating more ideas, creativity and the command over effective writing composition. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with general background of the study, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter includes the research methodology, data gathering procedure and limitations of the study. The third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of data which has been done on the basis of difference among the average score in percentage in pre-test and post-test. Chapter four includes the findings and recommendations of the study
