Item Impact of Socio-Economic Status on Mathematics Achievement on Gandharva Students in Kaski District(Faculty of Education, 2011) Adhikari, UpendraThe prime concern of this study was to explore the "Impact of Socio-Economic Status on Mathematics Achievement on Gandharva Students". An achievement test paper were the main instrument including parent questionnaire form and students questionnaire form for the study. The sample of study included 15 students out of them 6 boys and 9 were girls from Gandharva community from three government Schools of Kaski district. To collect the data for this study the researcher developed the test consisting of 54 multiple choice items on the basis of the prescribed textbook of mathematics of grade nine. To maintain validity and reliability of the test the researcher use item analysis. For this the researcher administrated achievement test paper with 25 students of Shree Bhoomeshwor Secondary School, Dhital - 4, Kaski. By obtaining P-value and D-value of the items, 9 items were rejected and remaining 45 items were accepted for the final form. The achievement test was administrated in grade ten students at the beginning of session to find out the achievement level of students. The time given for achievement test was one and half hour, one mark was given for one right answer. The mean, standard deviation, correlation tools were used for analysis of data. The following results were found. a. The mean score of children of educated, literate and illiterate fathers are 29.25, 22.00 and 18.50 respectively. The mean score of children of educated father is higher than that of literate and illiterate. And the mean score of literate is higher than illiterate father. b. The mean score of children of job holder, trade and agricultural father are 23.14, 22.25 and 23.5 respectively. The mean score of agricultural children is higher than that of trade and Job holder's children. And the mean score of job holders father's children is higher than that of trade. c. The mean score of small size, middle size and large size family children are 24.75, 23.77 and 16.00 respectively. The means score of children of small size is higher than that of middle size and large size family and the mean score of middle size family's children is higher than that of large size family children. d. The mean score of children from high, middle and low family income are 22.33, 25.11 and 17.33 respectively. The mean score of middle family incomes children is higher than high and low family income. e. The mean score of boys and girls of Gandharva children are 25.83 and 21.11 respectively. The mean score of boys is higher than the mean score of girls. f. Mathematics achievement of students were found to be associated with the father's education and positively correlated with family income but negatively correlated with father's occupation and family size. g. Family education was positively correlated with father's occupation and family income but negatively correlated with family size. h. The variable father occupation was low positively correlated with family income and negatively correlated with family size. And family size was negatively correlated with family income. i. Mathematics achievement of boys was strongly positively associated with father's education. But mathematics achievement of boys was negatively associated with father's occupation, family size and family income. j. Mathematics achievement of girls was strongly correlated with father's education, and family income but negatively correlated with father's occupation and family size. k. The variable father education of boys was negatively correlated with father's occupation and family income, zero correlated with family size. Also of girls was positively correlated with father occupation and family income but negatively correlated with family size. l. The variable father's occupation of boys was positively correlated with family income and negatively correlated with family size. And that of girls was zero correlated with family size and family income. m. The variable family size of boys was negatively correlated with family income and also that of girls.Item an inexpensive method of determination of fluoride(faculty of science, 2009) Adhikari, UpendraAn inexpensive spectrophotometric method of determination of fluoride inwater is developed which is based on bleaching action of fluoride ions on thecoloured complex of Fe (III) with salicylic acid to form stable, colourlesshexafluoride complex of iron. The conditions of the method (pH, stabilityand combination ratio) were studied and a standard curve was obtained for0-20 mg F - /L at 525nm. A study was conducted on interference withcomplexing cations that react with fluoride ions and anions that react withFe (III) to give more stable complex than Fe (III)-fluoride complex. Theresults obtained from this method are compared with standard SPADNS-Zirconyl chloride method. The results obtained are in good agreement withSPADNS-Zirconyl chloride method of determination of fluoride. Thecalibration sensitivity of the method is found to be 0.042 μg -1 .Thedetection limit is found to be 1.1μg mL -1 at 98.3% confidence level. Thesandell’s sensitivity of the method is found to be 0.02 μg mL -1 mL cm cm -2 . -1Item Parodic-intertextuality in Milan Kundera's ignorance(Department of English, 2019) Adhikari, UpendraMilan Kundera's novel Ignorance is a genuine presentation of the parodic intertextuality which has shown the glimpse of the historical and legendry figures in the form of common characters like Irenaand Josef. By using the epic of the great artist Homer he has made parody of the heroic figure Odyssey whom all the people of today remember. The central story of the novel revolves around the characters who are exiled from their country because of some particular reason like the communist horror. They want to return to their country but cannot because there is the situation which is not favorable for them. When they return their return is glorified by the writer comparing it to the return of the great heroic figure Odyssey. The memories of both characters of Odyssey and the Ignorance is presented simultaneously making it analogous. The novel Ignorance has shown the historical events which is the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968, political pursuit. Because of which people are expelled from the Communist Party. They are forced to beexiled from their own country. This type of incident has a great impact on the artistic manner of the writer. So,Kundera has adopted intertextuality to show all this. Therefore, the parody is used to show invasion of Soviet Communist in Czechoslovakia and ups and downs of the life of the people and invasion of Soviet Communist in Czechoslovakia .Item Techniques of Teaching Reading Skill in English at Basic Level(Faculty of English Education, 2021) Adhikari, UpendraThis thesis entitled "Techniques of teaching reading in English at basic level (a study in basic level schools of Itahari sub-metropolitan city,Sunsari)” was carried out to find out techniques and materials used by the English language teachers in teaching reading at basic level. The researcher had selected 15 schools situated in Itahari sub- metropolitan city of Sunsari district using purposive nonrandom sampling procedure. In the same way,15 ELT selected teachers from those selected schools were selected using the same sampling procedure were observed by using checklist to collect data and a set of questionnaires were also used. The data collected from these tools were analyzed and interpreted using descriptive as well as statistical tools. The overall findings of the study showed that, majority of the teachers have received trainings and all of the teachers feel interesting and exciting in teaching reading skill. All of the teachers make students participation in pre-teaching activities, make students read in their own way, motivate the students before teaching reading. All of the teachers faced low vocabulary power of the students and lack of sufficient teaching materials in their schools as the main problems in teaching reading and asked related questions of the reading exercise to evaluate the students. Explanation is the mostly used technique in teaching and prediction, strip story techniques are not founded to be used in teaching reading. All 15 teachers mentioned description of the hard words and explanation as the mostly used technique of teaching reading in English. Rest of the other teachers mentioned revision of previous reading, pair work, group work, demonstration, discussion and other technique as mostly used techniques. It was found that all of the teachers mostly used textbook and pictures/pamphlets in teaching reading. IX This thesis has been divided into five different chapters. The first chapter includes the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study. Similarly, second chapter deals with the review of related theoretical literature, empirical literature, implication of the review for the study and conceptual framework. Third chapter deals with the methodology employed to conduct the study. It gives information about the design of the study, population and sample, sampling procedure, data collection tools, data collection procedure and data analysis and interpretation procedure. Collected data were presented, analyzed and interpreted applying statistical tools like frequency and percentage in the fourth chapter. It also includes analysis of data and interpretation of the results and summary of the findings. Accordingly, the fifth chapter includes conclusions and recommendations. Some recommendations for policy related, practice related and further research related are presented in this section. This chapter is followed by references and appendices.
