Item Conditional Sentences in English and Maithili Languages: A Comparative Study(Department of English, 2010) Yadav, Pradip KumarMaithili belongs to the Eastern sub-group within the Indo-Aryan language family. Along with other Indo-Aryan language of India, such as Hindi, Gujaratior Marathi, it descends ultimately from an old Indo-Aryan (n) speech represented by the oral/written documents of Sanskrit. The relationship of Maithili to other Indo-Aryan languages is a subject of considerable scholarly debate. Maithili is that branch of the Indo-Aryan languages, which is spoken in Nepal and India and is the cultural and literary language of the country since long. English is an international language which is a common lingua Franca as well. It has played a crucial role in international communication of thoughts, ideas and sentiments. It is spoken as a first, second and foreign language all over the world. This work entitled Conditional Sentences in English and Maithili attempts to describe the conditional sentences in both languages along with their kinds,syntactic structures, their semantics, and their uses. The thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter gives the introduction of both English and Maithili languages. It also gives an outline of the entire study.The second and third chapters are the focal point of this dissertation which deal with conditional sentences in English and Maithili, respectively. The fourth chapters deals with the similarities and dissimilarities,between English and Maithili in terms of conditional sentence formation. The fifth chapter deals with the pedagogical implication of both languages. The sixth and the last chapter summarize the whole thesis and presents a brief conclusion.Item Strategies Adopted by Secondary Students in Vocabulary Learning(Department of English, 2012) Yadav, Pradip KumarThis thesis entitled"Strategies Adopted by Secondary Students in Vocabulary Learning"is an attempt to identify the strategies adopted by secondary level students in learning English vocabulary. The researcher collected data from the students of five secondary schools of Dolkha district. The total sample population of the study consisted of 100 students selected using sample random sample procedure. Theresearcherselected twenty students,ten students of grade nine and ten students of grade ten from each school). The questionnaire was the major tool for the data collection. The researcher spent two days in each school for collecting the data. The researcher found that the most frequently used vocabulary learning vocabulary were consulting dictionary, taking note in class and using bilingual dictionary. This study consists of four chapters. Chapter one consists of the general background,review of related literature, objective of the study, definition specific terms and significance of the study. Chapter two consist of the methods of study. It compares the source of data population of study, sample procedure tool for data collection and limitation of the study. Chapter three consists of the analysis and interpretation of the data. This data were analyzed and tabulated on the basis of the students, responses andalso classified in terms of different taxonomy. Chapter four consists of the finding and recommendation of the study.
