Item Complementary Feeding Practices among Mothers Having 6-24 Months Children in Pokhari VDC of Doti District(Faculty of Anthropology, 2017) Deuja, VikashThis descriptive study was carried out as a partial fulfillment of the degree of Masters of Anthropology. The objective of the study was to find out the level of knowledge & practice of complementary feeding practices. Semi-structured interview questionnaire was used to collect data from total 105 mothers. The study findings revealed that four out of ten (38.09%) respondent mothers were of 25-30 years’ age group.Half of respondents belong to Chhettri (59.2%) by ethnicity, majority (97.1%) were Hindu by religion, nuclear family six out of ten (60.9%) by family type. Majority of respondents (81.91%) of the mothers were aware about the necessity of giving additional food to the child and two out of ten (20%) knew it differs according to the age of the child. Majority of the mothers (80%) weren’t aware that 6 months was the right period of time to start additional food. Only few 20% of the mothers said correctly the amount of food that can be given to the 6 months’ child. Complementary feeding practices like amount of food given correctly to the child, frequency,& preparation of sarbottampitho by respondent mothers in Pokhari VDC were 20 percent, 32.38 percent & 16.19 percent respectively. Three fourth (74.29%) of respondents were found continuing breast feeding during the study. Uses of boil water during preparation of food were very few (8.57%) and hand washing practices before feeding were found 21.91 percent only. Similarly, the study revealed that majority (84.76%) of respondent mothers were married before the age of 20 and most (80.95%) became pregnant for the first time before the age of 20 years in Pokhari VDC. Family type (p-value=0.001) and correct level of knowledge of mothers about preparing sarbottampithokolito also showed positive relationship whereas family type (p-value=0.001) too showed positive relation with correct level of practice of mothers about food quantity given at main meal the day before. It was also found in this study that family type (p-value=0.001) with correct level of practice of mothers about hand washing with soap water before preparation of food showed positive relationship. This study may not reflect the scenario of the country but several such researches carried out in different social and cultural contest in Nepal can reflect the scenario of problem. Wrong knowledge regarding complementary feeding practices among mothers still persist and awareness level to various crucial factors important during complementary feeding was found to be unsatisfactory. It highlights the need of targeted interventions to raise awareness and provision of Health and Nutrition education package to most mothers. Poor Nutritional status arising due to lack of proper knowledge on complementary feeding is an issue that needs to be addressed at all level.Item Contribution of child care centers to early childhood development; a case study from the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal(Faculty of Education Tribhuvan University Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Nepal, 2011-04) Baral, Raj KumarThis thesis explores the contribution of child care centers in Kathmandu valley to early childhood development. Relevant data was collected through questionnaires, interviews, observation, and discussion with over one hundred participants. A general review of pertinent literature is also included to gain perspective. A broad range of theoretical lenses were used to analyze and interpret the data including the perspectives of early childhood development, economic, cultural sociology, and psychology. Analysis of the data showed that commercial child care centers in Kathmandu are in crisis: they need to contribute more to mental and psychological development of the children. Due to economic constraints - they have inadequate materials, facilities, and number of teachers. To address these issues, the author suggests that a special authority be created immediately to monitor commercial childcare centers and create common standards for their operation. Additionally, a policy to include teachers and parents in the management of and decisions making procedures of CCCs should be implemented.Item A study on Child Health problems and care practices of Dom community(Department of Healh Education, 2012) Dulal, KamalaThe study entitled “Child Health Problems and Care Practices in Dom Community of Itahari municipality of Sunsari District’’ based on primary data collected from 52 children of age group five years from ward no. 8 of Itahari Municipality, Sunsari District to make aware about the economic and cultural factors affecting on child health problems and care practice and also existing situation of child health. The child problem and care practices of Dom community of Itahari, sunsari have not been studied up to now by any aspects. In this area having population 206 in which 110 are male and 96 are female. Among which parents (either father or mother) of all together 52 children of age group five was selected for the study. The 52 children contain 44.23% male and 55.77% female. The structural observation and interview schedule were major tools for the data collection. The data was collected from the parents of the children. The study has tried to present real picture of knowledge of the people of Dom community and also the health condition of the children of age group five. All the respondents were illiterate. Due to lack of education and awareness their economic condition, health condition and way of living was found to be very poor. Majority of them live in houses made up of mud and fence with improper ventilation system, improper source of drinking water. delivery place, practice of antenatal check up, colostrums feeding, breast feeding, child immunization and supplementary food to their children, were not found satisfactory. The intake of iron tablet during the pregnancy, postnatal check up, additional food during pregnancy needs to be improved in the community. Most of the children were found to suffer from various diseases frequently. The diseases like jaundice, pneumonia and diarrhoea were found to be most prevalent diseases among the children. Due to lack of consciousness they still believe in witch doctors like dhami/jhankri. In conclusion, most of the respondents were found limited themselves in family and household works. All the respondents had low socio-economic status so they didn’t take additional food, health facilities, and proper care of child. Similarly, they feed usual meal to their children. Their diet is not balanced diet. The result of the study shows that economic and cultural factors have influenced in some areas/fields of child health and care practice of the study area.Item Utilization of institutional delivery service in rural area of Ilam: A case study of Ilam Municipality-2, Sumbek, Ilam(Department of Rural Development, 2017) Bhattarai, BachaspatiThis thesis entitled "Utilization of Institutional Delivery Services in Rural Area of of Ilam(A case study of Ilam municipality-2,Sumbek,Ilam) has been prepared for the fulfillment of Maser Degree in Rural Development from the Mahendra Ratna Multiple Campus, Ilam . Health is the basic thing of human life. In health sector maternal health is also most important matter for the concern of community and society. Maternal health condition of any society shows the development condition of that society . Maternal health is the condition of the health of mother mainly during pregnancy, in child birth and in postnatal period .To make the health condition of mother good one of the most important thing is utilization of health facility should be regular. Maternal mortality and neonatal mortality is high in developing country like Nepal .This maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity is high in rural area than urban area. To reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity the utilization of health facility is the main aspect. By utilization of health institution more life of mother and child can be saved. This study try to find out the condition of utilization of institutional delivery service and barrier in utilization of service in rural area of Ilam. In the study descriptive research design is applied. The raw data are collected from respondent by field survey and other different necessary information are collect from key informant like HA ,SAHW,ANM ,FCHV and other senior people of study area. By analyzing the collected raw data and information taken from findings are disseminated. The ANC visit is satisfactory and most of the respondent have knowledge about the ANC visit . Among respondents 78.26% of respondents delivered their baby at health facility which is greater than national status. Similarly 71.19% of respondents were interested to deliver their baby in health facility. Among respondents 47.46 % were Aadibasi/Janjati and 15.25% Dalit and 37.25% were Brahman/Chhetri. The big part of the population is sum of Dalit and janjati. In this scenario also the service utilization trend is some satisfactory. The trend of ANC visit and baby delivered place is hopeful .But it is not time for well satisfy. Some woman have now also not good concept about ANC visit and need to delivery baby at health facility .They have now also traditional concept .In the study area woman having no any ANC visit and baby delivered at home also found .Which shows still awareness about maternal health is necessary in remote rural area . There are different barrier for utilization institutional delivery services and ANC visit. The key finding of the study shows that parity, maternal education, economic status of family, distance of health facility, interest of mother etc. were significant predictor of woman's place of delivery and ANC visit. High maternal and neonatal mortality rate is our national problem. One main intervention to reduce the rate is to increase the utilization of heath facility in concern of maternal health. This study gives the status of utilization of heath facility in rural area of Ilam municipality .Perhaps it helps other scholar, policy maker and concerned sector.
