Item Pronominal in Rajbangsi and English(Faculty of English Education, 2010) Thapa, SabitriThis present work contains the contrastive analysis of Rajbangsi and English pronominal systems. The languages corpus of English are collected from the secondary sources, whereas Rajbangsi pronominal corpus are collected from Charpane of Jhapa. Direct observation and interviews have been the sources of collecting language corpus. Secondary sources have been used to get some information of Rajbangsi people and their language. The findings show that English lacks honorificity in pronouns, whereas Rajbangsi lacks indefinite pronouns. In other contexts, systems of pronominal markings are different. English lacks ergative markers, whereas it exists in Rajbangsi. First chapter deals with Introduction that mainly consists of general background, Rajbangsi people, Rajbangsi and English, literature review, objectives of the study, significance of the study and hypothesis of the study. Second chapter contains methodology, whereas chapter three deals with analysis and interpretation. Findings and recommendations are included in Chapter four, which is followed by references and appendices.Item Request Forms in Tharu and English(Faculty of Education, 2009) Chaudhary, Rama nandThis thesis entitled “Request Forms inTharuand English”wasan attempt tofind out the request forms intheTharu language and compare and contrastthem with those of English. The researcher used both primary and secondarysourcesof data. The sample population of the study consisted of 80 nativespeakers of Tharu including educated and uneducated. Among80 informants,40 were educated and equalnumberof uneducated informants were there. Theresearcher used stratified random sampling procedure to sample the population.The interviewschedulefor uneducated and written questionnaire for educatedpopulation werethe research tools for the data collection. On the basis of thecollected data theanalysis and interpretation weredone descriptively andcomparatively with the help of tables, diagrams and illustrations.The findingshowed that Tharu native speakers were less polite thanEnglish nativespeakers and the Tharu people used 57.77% direct requests. This thesis contains four chapters viz. introduction, methodology, analysis andinterpretation, and finding and recommendations.The first chapter deals withintroduction which consists of general background, the EnglishlanguageinNepal, thelanguagesof Nepal, the Tharu language, language functions, therequest formsof English sentences, importance of requesting in language, anoverview of pragmatics, different views onpoliteness,need and importance ofCA,reviewoftherelated literature,objectives of thestudy, significance of thestudy and the definitions of the specific terms.The second chapters deals withmethodology, adopted for the study. It consists of sources of data, populationof the study, sampling procedure, tools for data collection and limitationsof thestudy. Similarly, the third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation ofthe data. It consistsofrequest forms in the Tharu language with illustrationsand comparison of the request forms of the Tharu language with those ofEnglish. Thefourth chapter dealswith the findings and recommendations.Item A Semantic Analysis of English and Sampang Verbs(Department of Education English, 2011) Rai, BirbalThe thesis entitled ‘A Semantic Analysis of English and Sampang Verbs’ attempts to analyze some English and Sampang Verbs Correlation in terms of their meaning. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the English and Sampang verbs mainly on the basis of one to one correlation of meaning and convergence and divergence of meaning. To accomplish the objective of the study Sampang native speakers were taken as the main informants for eliciting the data. They were selected using judgemental sampling procedure and interviewed according to prepared interview schedule but English data were taken from secondary sources. The selected English and Sampang verbs have been described in contexts. Then, the meaning of those verbs have been analyzed following componential analysis approach. The main findings of the research study is that there are inherent differences in the semantic systems of English and Sampang verbs. This study shows that the Sampang language has more verbs of seeing, touching, cutting and breaking. It has also been found that the the suffix ‘-ma’ is added at end of the root of Sampang verbs referring to seeing, touching, cutting and breaking. This thesis has four chapters. They are introduction, methodology, analysis and interpretation and findings and recommandations. The first chapter consists of general background, literature review, objectives of the study, significance of the study and definition of the specific terms. Similarly, the second chapter includes sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, research tools, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Likewise, the third chapter includes analysis and interpretation of the thesis, which is its main part. Finally, the fourth chapter consists of findings, recommandations and pedagogical implications that are very crucial for long voyage of teaching.
