Item Brainstorming for Developing Writing(Department of Education English, 2011) Bhandari, Bhoj RajThis thesis entitled “Brainstorming for Developing Writing” is an effort to find out whether the brainstorming strategies are helpful in writing composition or not. The study attempted to analyze the attitude of the students towards writing composition as well as their practice of using brainstorming while writing have been judged through different tests, practices and critical categories. The study was divided into two parts i.e. attitudinal survey and use of brainstorming while teaching. The first part included the attitude of students towards writing and using different strategies for effective writing whereas the second part was concerned with the study on the effectiveness of brainstorming strategies in writing composition. For the attitudinal survey, 40 students from North Star Boarding School, Myagdi were selected and for examining the use of brainstorming techniques only 20 students were selected. Before starting teaching using brainstorming techniques, the students were given pre-test to determine their command, level and understanding on writing composition. After analyzing the scores of pre-test, real teaching was started for four weeks. After teaching for four weeks, the post-test was given using different set of post-test. The results of pre-test and post test were analyzed to determine the effectiveness of brainstorming techniques. The findings of this study showed that teaching brainstorming techniques were really useful for developing writing skills, for being creative and generating ideas through such techniques. The pre-test result shows that students scored only 389 (38.9%) marks whereas the post-test mark was 694 (69.4%). The post-test result proves that the brainstorming has been really fruitful for generating more ideas, creativity and the command over effective writing composition. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with general background of the study, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter includes the research methodology, data gathering procedure and limitations of the study. The third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of data which has been done on the basis of difference among the average score in percentage in pre-test and post-test. Chapter four includes the findings and recommendations of the studyItem Developing Writing Proficiency Through Process Writing(Department of English Education, 2012) Karki, Tej BahadurThe research study entitled "Developing Writing Proficiency through Process Writing" attempts to find out the actual writing proficiency of the tenth graders of Parbat district in terms of organization and proper use of processes such as generating ideas, focusing, structuring, drafting, evaluating and re-viewing. To carry out the research the researcher selected Shree Ram Secondary School of Parbat district by using non random judgmental sampling procedures and twenty students (ten boy sand ten girls) by using simple random sampling procedure. The research was carried out using both primary and secondary sources of data. The researcher went to the field and taught the students by using processes of wiring.He taught paragraph writing, letter writing, dialogue writing, essay writing, story writing and speech talk. The researcher took the weekly test and measured the students' proficiency. The test score was the tool for data collection. The data were analyzed and interpreted on the basis of the tabulated data in accordance with the set objectives. The findings show that the proficiency of the students after teaching by applying process writing was satisfactory. All of the students got high progress,but this is long process to apply. This thesis comprises four main chapters. The first chapter deals with introduction which consists of general background, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology used to carry out the research,the sources of data, sample population, sampling procedures, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of the data. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted by using simple statistical tools like average, percentage and descriptive approach.The fourth chapter presents the findings derived from the analysis and the interpretation of the data. It also suggests some recommendations on the basis of the findings. The final section of the study includes the references and appendices.
