Item English and Nepali code-mixing in the Limbu language(Department of English, 2009) Tumbahang, Mohan KumarThis thesis entitled "English and Nepali Code-Mixing in the Limbu Language" attempts to have the socio-linguistic scenario of English and Nepali Code-Mixing in the present Limbu language. The researcher availed both the primary and secondary sources of data. An official request letter of Sukuna Multiple Campus was sent to Radio Nepal Regional Transmission Centre, Dhankuta as a tool to collect data. After that, the researcher studied and analyzed the available data. The thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with general background in which language has been defined, linguistic scenario of Nepal, introduction of the Limbu language and the reasons of code mixing. Chapter two is related to methodology which deals with sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter three deals with analysis and interpretation of the data and chapter four includes findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications of the study. The major findings of the present study reveal that English code-mixing occurs in a greater number than Nepali in the Limbu language. The code-mixing is found in the word and phrase levels but not in the sentence level. In terms of the word classes, noun and adjective are found in the first and second position of occurrence respectively. Verb and adverb have no occurrence at all. The important issue to highlight here is why the Limbu speakers are inclined to mix English and Nepali codes and what obvious reasons there are behind English and Nepali code-mixing into the Limbu language.Item English code mixing in Nepali novel 'Karnali Blues'(Department of English Education, 2016) Prasai, Dibya JyotiThis research study entitled English Code Mixing In Nepali Novel ‘Karnali Blues’ is an effort to find out, analyze, and interpret the elicited English codes mixed in the Nepali novel 'Karnali Blues' written by Buddhisagar. For this study, the researcher had collected all the English expressions mixed in the novel and the assembled data were categorized grammatically, i.e. words, phrases, sentences and abbreviations. The researcher used judgmental purposive sampling procedure for the collection of data. All the English expressions mixed in the novel were categorized and analyzed in terms of word classes, phrases, sentences and abbreviations with their various frequencies of occurrence and the context in which Code-Mixings took place. As the primary sources of data for the study, 20 literary writers and the equal number of literary readers from Sunsari and Morang districts of Nepal were randomly selected. Then their statements and opinions were collected and analyzed. The findings of this research work show that a large number of English codes like nouns, adjectives, adverbs, abbreviations and sentences were mixed in the novel with their different frequencies. Nouns were maximally used followed by adjectives, verbs and adverbs. Regarding the context of Code-Mixing, the writer found mixing the English codes in various situations for e.g. while describing about hospital activities, school activities, putting on dresses, depicting the rural scene and many more.The study has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with introductionwhich has incorporated general background, statement of problem, rationale of the study, objectives of the research, research questions, significance of the study, and delimitation of the study. The second chapter deals with review of the related literature, implication of reviewed literature and conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with methods and procedures that include design of the study, sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure and sample size, tools of data collection, and process of data collection. The forth chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of the data. It includes mixed English expressions, contextual analysis of English Code-Mixing, analysis of the literary writers' and the readers' attitudes towards English code mixing. The final chapter deals with conclusions and recommendations which includes conclusions, pedagogical implications and recommendations.Item English Codes Used by Farmers(Department of English Education, 2018) Neupane, ShishirThis study entitled "English Codes Used by Farmers "is an attempt to find out the Mixed English words in the Nepali language and to find out the context of mixed English words in the Nepali language. In order to achieve the objective of the study the researcher used both primary data and secondary data. In this study thirty farmers of the Nepali language were selected from Nawalparasi district. In sample population there were illiterate and literate farmers. The researcher used non random sampling procedure to elicit required data. The main tool for data collection was semi structured interview schedule. The researcher found mixed English terms in greater numbers, e.g. English, math, tractor, mobile, computer, school, boarding, etc. The major findings of this study were Code mixing is the most frequent at the word level in comparison to other linguistic units (Phrase, clause and sentence) and lots of English words used in daily life/ family related, agriculture related, community meeting related and schooling their children questions related but more English terms were found in schooling their children and daily life/family related question respectively. This study consists of five chapters. The first chapter encompasses introduction of the study. It incorporates the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms. Similarly, chapter two deals with the review of related theoretical literature, review of related empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework. The third chapter presents the design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, data collection procedures, and data analysis and interpretation procedures. Similarly, chapter four consists of the analysis and interpretation of the results and fifth chapter deals with the findings, conclusion and recommendations. The concluding chapter is followed by the references and appendixes that were used in the thesis.
