Item An analysis of grade seven English textbook(Department of English Education, 2023) Yadav, Sushmita KumariThe present research entitled An Analysis of Grade Seven English Textbook aims at analyzing the English textbook of grade seven in terms of physical aspects(layout, cover page design, size of textbook, lettering and spacing, binding and paper quality) and academic aspects (objectives, content, presentation, exercise, function,illustration). The current basic level English textbook of grade seven was the main source of this research work. The data were collected through a set of questionnaire including open and close-ended questions. Then the data were analyzed and interpreted statistically and descriptively. This study reveals that Curriculum Development Center (CDC) has tried to make the textbook best but there are some short comings in terms of physical and academic aspects of the textbook which need to be improved. However the strong aspects of the textbook include attractive cover page, clearly reflected objectives and sufficient exercises whereas the weakness includes poor paper quality, poor binding, uncleared pictures, lack of grammatical exercises, lack of supplementary materials as well as instruction for teachers. Finally,some suggestions are provided for the improvement of the textbook. This thesis has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter consists of introductory part, which deals with background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study,delimitations of the study and operational definition of key terms. The second chapter incorporates the review of related literature, theoretical framework and conceptual framework. The third chapter includes methods and procedures. It consists of research design, primary and secondary sources of data, population of the study, sample population, tools for the data collection and process of data collection. The fourth chapter analyzes and interprets the date statistically and descriptively. The fifth chapter presents the findings, conclusion and recommendations. Finally, it includes references and appendices.Item Reading comprehension ability of grade five students(Department of English Educaion, 2023) Pathak, RashmiThis research entitled “Reading Comprehension Ability of Grade Five Students” examines reading comprehension ability of two types of schools: EnglishMediumCommunity and Institutional. It mainly focuses on the reading and understanding the twopassages: one seenand another unseen in order to test students’ reading ability along with thecomprehension. To ensure whether they understood or not, subjective and objectivequestions are asked. In order to find out their reading comprehension ability ten schools wereselected from Sunsari district. The researcher went through the theoretical and empiricalreview of the related literature for making reliable research tools. The tools were made on thebasis of the data obtained from literature review. The students were given a set of0questionnaire. The questions were related to the comprehensive testing purpose. Therespondents answered genuinely. The data were analyzed and interpreted. It was found outthat there is no significant difference between English medium community schools andinstitutional schools in reading comprehension ability. There are five chapters in this present research. In the first chapter, the introduction ofthe research work has been presented. It includes the background of the study, statement ofthe problems, objectives of the study, research questions, and significance of the study,delimitation of the study and operational definition of key terms. References have beenpresented in the last chapter.Item Reading Comprehension of Twelfth Grader on Literary Text(Department of English Education, 2022) Gupta, SabitaThis thesis entitled Reading Comprehension of Twelfth Grader on Literary Text has been carried out to find out the comprehension level of the students in poetry and short story and make comparisons. The students, studying at grade 12 in community and private colleges of Morang district were the sources of data for this study. They were examined by tests based on four different types, each bearing 50 full marks. Two texts were seen and two were unseen. Altogether 60 students were taken as the sample population to administer the test. From the analysis of the data obtained, it is found that the comprehension level of grade 12 students were better in poetry than in short story. The overall comprehension level of male students is better in poetry than female. The overall comprehension level in seen texts is better than in unseen texts, their performance as better in the objectives types of test than subjective types of test. This dissertation consists of five chapters. Each chapter is divided into different sub-chapters. The first chapter is an introductory chapter. It includes general background, statement of the problem, rationale of the research, objectives of the research, research questions, significance of the study and delimitations. The second chapter deals with the review of the related literature, theoretical framework and conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with the methodology. It includes design of the study, sources of data, population sample, tools for data collection, sampling procedure, data collection procedure and analysis and interpretation of data. The fourth chapter deals with results and discussion. The fifth chapter deals with findings and recommendations. References and appendices are presented at the end of this chapter.
