Item Attitudes of the Prospective English Language Teachers towards the Teaching License(Department of English Education, 2008) Bashyal, Bishnu PrasadThe present study entitled "Attitudes of the Prospective English Language Teachers towards the Teaching License" attempts to find out the attitudes of the prospective English language teachers towards the teaching license in Nepal. The study was extended to find out two important areas: needs/relevancies and process/mechanism of the teaching license. To accomplish this study a set of questionnaire was prepared and distributed to 100 informants (i.e. students of M.Ed. English), having license for teaching at the secondary level. After the analysis and interpretation of the responses, it is found that the majority of the respondents are positive towards the need of teaching license in Nepal. But they are in favor of change or reformation in the existing process and mechanism i.e. grading, renewal system and subject wise licensing. This study consists of four chapters. Chapter one introduces the study in terms of general background, review of related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study and definitions of the specific terms used. Chapter two deals with the methodology applied to conduct the study. This consists of the sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter three deals with the analysis and interpretation of the raw data obtained from the informants. The data were analyzed and interpreted by using simple statistical tools and presented with the help of tables, charts and diagrams. Finally, chapter four deals with the findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications of the study.Item Motivation Techniques Used by English Language Teachers(Department of English Education, 2018) Shyada, Prem BahadurThe present research work entitled Motivation Techniques Used by English Language Teachers was an attempt to explore motivation techniques used by English language teachers teaching in Bachelor level to motivate the students in the classroom. Both the primary and secondary sources of data were utilized in the study. This research study followed survey research design. The data were collected from forty Bachelor level English teachers of Kathmandu valley. The teachers were selected by using purposive non- random sampling method. The data collected through classroom observation and questionnaire were analyzed and interpreted descriptively and statistically. It was found that teachers used various motivation techniques such as create supportive and pleasant atmosphere, establish good rapport with the students, have a humor and fun, make teaching materials relevant to motivate the students in target language classroom. Likewise, the study displays that there were different challenges faced by the English teachers while motivating the students. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the topic in which background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study, operational definitions of key terms are included. The second chapter includes the review of theoretical literature, empirical literature, implications of the review of the study and conceptual framework. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the methods and procedures of the study. It includes research design of the study, population, sample, sampling strategies, data collection tools, data collection procedure, data interpretation procedure and ethical consideration. The fourth chapter includes analysis and interpretation of data. Similarly, the fifth chapter presents findings, conclusions of the study and recommendations. Finally, the reference and the appendices are presented.Item Participation in Question Answer Sessions(2012) Pokharel, Bishnu MayaThe present study entitled, "Female participation in question answer session in ELT classroom" aims to find out to what extent female students participate in question answer and difficulties faced by them in doing so. The study is mainly based on the primary data which was collected from the forty students of grade XI and four English language teachers teaching in Higher Secondary level of Tanahun District. The data were collected through structured interview, classroom teaching/learning observation guide and check-list were also used. It was found that learning time, text book, separate facilities to female students, manageable classroom, library have high relation with female participation in question answer and the frequency of participation in raising question is more by male students and frequency of answering is more by female students. The data which was collected by using the observation guide and check list showed that the teacher presented themselves as an authority in the classroom and still used the lecture method. They did not give any priority to female students, to illicit answers. The study consists of four chapters.
