Item Activities used by Teachers of English While Teaching Essay(Faculty of Education Engish, 2017) Bhatt, DharmanandThis study entitled “Activities Used by Teachers of English While Teaching Essay” aimed to identify the activities used by teachers while teaching essay.Secondly, it had aimed to find out the value of different activities in teaching essay. Keeping the objectives in consideration 20 English language teachers were selected from twenty different secondary schools of Nuwakot district through non-random purposive sampling procedure. I used questionnaire as the research tool including eighteen close ended questions and six open ended questions. After analysis and interpretation of the data, it was found that majority of the English language teachers of Nuwakot district used three different stages as pre-teaching, while teaching and post teaching while they teach essay. Furthermore, it was found that activities of teaching essay are very important and valuable because those activities play pivotal role to teach essay in the secondary level. They were replied as teaching essay increases vocabulary power of the students. In the same way, some teachers insisted that teaching essay encourages students to read text in English. This study consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with background of the study, statements of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter deals with the review of theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the study and conceptual framework of the study. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the methodology adopted for the study in which, design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy of the study, research tools sources of data, data collection procedure and data analysis and interpretation procedure of the study are discussed. The fourth chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the collected data descriptively and using simple statistical tool i.e. percentage. Similarly, the fifth chapter deals with the findings based on the analysis and interpretation of the data, conclusion derived from the findings and recommendations. This chapter is followed by reference and appendices.Item An Analysis of English Textbook: The Magic of Words(Department of English Education, 2008) Karki, Pabitra RajThis study presents an evaluation of one of the compulsory English textbooks for grade XI of Higher Secondary Level, 'The Magic of Words'. The book has been evaluated and analyzed on the basis of its physical and academic aspects. The data for the present study were collected through the primary and secondary sources. The overall analysis was done by using simple statistical tools like percentage. The main finding of the study is that the textbook is prepared according Higher Secondary Level of the students and the content of the book is simple and easy to understand. Most of the reading texts are comprehensible for the students. The present thesis is divided into four major chapters. The first chapter presents introduction, general background, history of English language teaching in Nepal, textbook: A brief introduction of textbook, importance of a textbook, use of textbook to the teachers and students, types of textbooks, characteristics of a good textbook, textbook analysis, the purpose of textbook analysis, the selected textbook, framework for textbook analysis, literature review and objectives of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology used to carry out this study which includes sources of data, the sample and sampling procedure, tools for data collection, the process of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter includes the analysis of the data collected from the primary and secondary sources. The data have been analyzed by using simple statistical tools such as percentage and table. The fourth chapter lists the findings and recommendations of the study. In the final section of the study, the references and appendices are included.Item Students' perceptions on using power point in EFL classroom : A narrative inquiry(Department of English Education, 2023) Awasthi, RadhikaThe present study entitled "Students' Perceptions on Using PowerPoint in EFL Classroom: A Narrative Inquiry"was conducted with the objectives to explore the students’ perceptions regarding the use of power point presentation in EFL Classroom based on their experience. Narrative Inquiry research design was used in this study. Only five EFL Master level students studying at Tribhuvan University, in Kirtipur were selected as the sample population for the study. The respondents were chosen through purposive sampling procedure. The data were collected by in-depth interview as a tool of data collection, and they were analyzed and interpreted adopting thematic approach. The findings of this study show that the Power Points based learning is an effective tool to develop several language skills and aspects. It is also useful for the construction of materials, develop creativity, easy to handle classroom and to motivate learner towards learning. The study provides insights to the EFL teachers, teacher educators, policy makers, curriculum developers, syllabus designers in formulating right kind of planning and policies in the field of English Language Teaching in Nepal.In Conclusion, proper support, training, use of pictures and videos, following principles of slide designing, bullet points, interaction with students should be kept in mind before designing PowerPoint. So that PowerPoint presentation could be effective, lively and fruitful. If so then the use of PowerPoint in ELT classes will certainly help to bring a positive result and change. This chapter is also followed by references and appendices.Item Teachers’ Efforts in Effective Classroom Management in English Language Teaching at Basic Level(Department of English Educaion, 2023) Ban, RenukaThis research study entitled Teachers’ Efforts in Effective Classroom Management in English Language Teaching at Basic Levelaimed to analyse the teachers’ efforts in effective classroom management in English language teaching at Basic level and find out the challenges faced by the teachers in practicing effective classroom management in English language teaching at Basic level. Keeping the objectives into considerations, four basic levelEnglish teachers from two community schools were selected as the sample by using purposive sampling strategy. Data for this study were collected through classroom observation and structured interview with the selected participants/teachers. I visited and revisited the study area to collect and validate the data. After the collection of the data they were analysed and interpreted descriptively through phenomenology research design. Findings of the study showed that ELT teachers decorated the classrooms and arranged the students’ seats as a part of their efforts towards physical design of the classroom. Teachers created simple rules and routines which needed to be followed by the students as well as teachers. Similarly, there were two kinds of relationship: they were students-students relationship and teacher-students relationship. Likewise,teachers gave clear instruction, motivated the students and engaged them in classroom activities. Further, it was found that teachers did not give physical punishment in the name of maintaining discipline but they gave educational treatment as a part of their efforts. This thesis also revealed that teachers’ faced some challenges in practicing effective classroom management such as physical facilities, use of L1 in ELT classrooms, misbehaviourof students, heterogeneous classrooms and lack of teaching materials. This thesis consists of five main chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the topic in which background of the study, statement of the problem, significance of the study, objectives of the study, research questions, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter includes the review of both theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the review along with the conceptual framework of the study. It includes design and methods of the study in detail: research population, sample and sampling procedures, data collection tools and techniques, procedures for data collection, data analysis and interpretation proceduresand ethical considerations. The fourth chapter includes analysisof data and interpretation of the results. Then fifth chapter incorporates findings, conclusion and recommendations. Finally, references and appendices were attached.
