Item Basic Level Students' Attitude Towards Free Writing in EFL Classroom(Department of English Education, 2023) Pariyar, SagarThe present study entitled Basic Level Students' Attitude Towards Free Writing in EFL Classroom was conducted to find the basic level student's attitudes towards free writing in EFL classroom. The research design adopted in the study was survey. The researcher used a set of questionnaires consisting close-ended items. The study was conducted in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, Kailali. Altogether 120 students of basic level were selected as the sample population using purposive non-random sampling procedure. The data collected from the respondents were analyzed and interpreted to explore their attitude towards free writing in EFL classroom. The overall findings of the study showed that almost all of the students liked free writing in EFL classroom. The majority of the students said that they like to share knowledge and skill through free writing. Moreover, this study revealed that free writing is necessary to be active and creative. It is found that free writing required a variety of skills. Similarly, almost students said that free writing is essential in EFL classroom and it really helps to secure good marks in examination. This thesis consists of five main chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the topic in which background of the study, statement of the problem, significance of the study, objectives of the study, research questions, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter includes the review of both theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the review for the study along with the conceptual framework of the study. The third chapter deals with the methods and procedures of the study. It includes design and methods of the study in detail: research population, sample and sampling strategies, data collection tools and techniques, data collection procedure, data analysis and interpretation procedures and ethical considerations. The fourth chapter includes analysis of data and interpretation of the results. Then fifth chapter incorporates findings, conclusion and recommendations. Finally, references and appendices are attached.Item Basic Level Students’ Proficiency in Free Writing(Department of English Education, 2022) Singh, PrabeshThe present study entitled “Basic level Students’ Proficiency in Free Writing” aimed at determining the students’ proficiency of grade 8 in free writing. Survey was used as a research design. The sample wasone hundred and five students selected from seven community schools of Lahan municipality through simple random sampling procedure. The study used essay writing and paragraphs writing as tools for data collection. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted with the help of the tables and statistical tools such as mean and percentage. The findings show low proficiency of students in free writing seen from the measures of ability in subject matter, cohesion and coherence, vocabulary, grammar and mechanics. The students who had below basic level category of proficiency were 44.81%, basic level category were 29.29%, proficient 1 category were 19.16%, proficient 2 were 3.53%, proficient 3 were 3.15% whereas students haven’t achieved advance level of proficiency. The overall performance was below 40% indicating students’ low proficiency in writing. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter incorporates the background of the study, statements of the problem, rational of the study, objectives of the study, research questions, delimitations of the study, and the operational definition of the key terms. The second chapter contains review of both theoretical and empirical literature along with their implications, and conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with methods and procedures of the study which comprise design and method of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures and ethical considerations. The fourth chapter deals with the analysis of data, and interpretation of the results. The fifth chapter determines findings, conclusions and recommendations.Item Challenges in Teaching Writing at Basic Level(Department of English Education, 2022) Ghimire, DineshThe present study entitled „" Challenges in Teaching Writing at Basic Level" was carried to explore the challenges of basic level students in free writing activities. My interest in strategies in teaching writing skills in EFL classroom arose from my own teaching experience since I experienced the writings produced by my students were difficult to understand because lack of proper structure, logics and coherence and cohesion. I used survey research design to accomplish this study. In order to carry out this study, I collected the data from forty basic level students studying in Roshi Rural Municipality Kavrepalanchok District, through random sampling procedure. A set of questionnaire and a test item were used as the main tools for data collection. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted with the help of tables. The findings of the study showed the students faced challenges in writing a cohesive paragraph. They are weak in writing grammatically correct sentences. They lacked confidence, they failed to generated ideas to drafts and couldn't write the effective sentences. This thesis has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with background of the study, statement of the problem, objective of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. Whereas the second chapter incorporates the review of related literature, implication of the review of the study and conceptual framework. On the other hand, the third chapter deals with the methods and procedure of this study. Similarly, fourth chapter encompasses analysis and interpretation of data. Finally, fifth chapter deals with findings, summary, conclusion and recommendations of the study. And, in the final section, references and appendices are included.Item Errors Committed in the use of Verbs in free Writing(Department of English Education, 2018) Dahal, AsmitaThe present study entitled'Errors Committed in the Use of Verbs in Free Writing' is an attempt to determine and analyze the performance an errors committed in the use of verbs in free writing by students of grade 10. To carryout this research, 40 students (10 from each school) studying in four community schools in Dolakha district were selected randomly. For collecting data, a test consisting of three essays was administered to the students. The students were intended to write some paragraphs on the given topics. In freewriting of the students only the use of verbs was analyzed. Accordingly, the findings were derived from their writing.From the data analysis and interpretation, it was found that students commit the highest number of errors in subject verb agreement in their writing. Likewise, the errors were found in omission of Be verb, spelling of verb, unnecessary use of verb, tense, verb form, omission of Have verb and use of verbs in Nepali language like SOV pattern. This thesis consists of five chapters. First introductory part includes general background,i.e. overview on English Language Education, grammar and error analysis. This chapter also deals with statement of problems, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of study, delimitations of study and operational definitions of key terms. The second chapter consists of review of related theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the study and conceptual framework. Likewise, the third chapter is related with methodology which includes design and method of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, data collection tools and techniques, study area/fields, data collection procedure and data analysis and interpretations imilarly chapter four consists of analysis and interpretations of results and summary /discussion of findings. Finally, the fifth or last chapter deals with conclusion and recommendations of the study followed by references and appendices.Item Proficiency of Chepang Students in Free Writing Skill at Lower Secondary Level(Department of English Education, 2021) Thapa Magar, GitaThis research entitled Proficiency of Chepang Students in Free writing at Lower Secondary Level has been carried out to identify the proficiency of lower secondary level students of Dhading District especially in free writing compositions. This study looks into the content, formats, prepositions and uses of mechanics of writing in holistic way. To address the objectives of the study, forty students were selected from community school as a sample by using nonrandom sampling of Dhading District. This research was carried out using both the primary and secondary sources of data. The data was analyzed and interpreted on the basis of test items consisting of dialogue writing, paragraph writing, essay writing and letter writing which were the tools for data collection. It was found that the performance of students in free writing was satisfactory. Among different types of test items like paragraph writing, essay writing,letter writing and dialogue writing, letter writing was found to be more difficult areaas in comparison to other items. This study comprises five chapters. The first chapter presents the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and operational definition of the key terms. The second chapter consists of the review of related theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implications of the study and conceptual framework. In the same way, chapter three includes design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedure, data analysis procedure and ethical considerations. The fourth chapter deals with analysis of data and interpretation of results where data have been analyzed in terms of different headings like Holistic analysis, school wise analysis, items wise analysis and findings of the study. The final chapter deals with findings, conclusion and recommendations which are summed up from the analysis and interpretation of the collected data for the purpose of research. Effective Communication is possible by the harmonious use of sentences. Especially in oral communication and in free writing proper use of situational varieties of sentences increases harmoniousness. The central intention of this research is to see whether the free writing of secondary level students is really effective or not. This thesis entitled "A Study on the Use of Sentence Varieties in Free Writing" is an attempt to find out the recent trends of use of various types of sentences and to find out the most popular variety of sentences used in free writing. For this, the researcher collected and analysed essays (primary data) written by 40 students of Chitwan District in which total five schools consisting three institutional and two community schools of village and town were the sample population. The primary data were analysed by using the descriptive as well as simple statistical method. It was found that students mostly preferred to use declarative, simple, present and active form of sentences in their free writing. Basically, students were found least interested to use interrogative, imperative, exclamatory and optative sentences in their free writing. This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with the general background, review of related literature, objectives, the definition of terms and significance of the study. The second chapter consists of the methodology in which the sources of data, sampling procedures, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study are mentioned. The third chapter contains analysis and interpretation of the data. Lastly, the fourth chapter comprises the findings and recommendations of the study.Item A Study on the Use of Verbsin Free Writing by the Students of Grade 10(Department of English Education, 2007) Adhikari, GangaThis thesis attempts to determine and analyze the performance anderrors in the use of verbs in free writing by the students who are studying ingrade 10. Toaccomplish the objectives of he study, the researcher collecteddata from the 80students (20 from each school) studying in four governmentschools of Kathmandu district by using non-random, judgemental samplingprocedure. For collecting data, a test consisting of three subjective questionsfor free writing with the limitation of words and time was administered tothe students. The students were intended to write some paragraphs on thegiven topics. The free writing of the students was analyzed on the basis ofthe use of verbs. Accordingly, the findings were concluded. The major findings of he study are: tenth graders were able to use63.68% verbs correctly in free writing, the students of Tarun SecondarySchool showed the highest performance and the students of ManoharSecondary School committed the highest number of errors among theselected schools, male students showed a better performance in free writingthan female students, the highest number of errors was found in using tensesetc. This dissertation consists of four chapters. The datawere analyzed in order to find out the proficiency in writingofgrade ninestudents.The researcher analyzed the data according to the testitems, the researcher compared the writing proficiency of grade nine studentsof Bardiya and Kaski districts with the help of average marks obtained by thestudents, the researcher analyzed the data on the basis of gender. Theresearcher at first, compared the average marks of boys and girls of Kaskidistrict and then Bardiya district. The researcher again compared theaveragemarks of boys of Bardiya and Kaski districts and then average marks of girls ofBardiya and Kaski districts.On the basis of the findings,somerecommendations have been made to improve the existing pedagogicalsituation. Thethesisconsists of four chapters.Chapter one is introductionwhichincludesgeneral background, literature review, objectivesandsignificance of the study.Chapter two deals with the methodology applied to conduct the research.
