Item Effectiveness of Picture Strip Story in Teaching Guided Writing(Faculty of English Education, 2014) Neupane, Narayan PrasadThe present study entitled Effectiveness of Picture Strip Story in Teaching Guided Writing aims at finding out the effectiveness of picture strip story technique in teaching guided writing. To carry out this research, sixty students of grade eight of Adarsha Higher Secondary School, Lasargha of Syangja district were selected as sample population. The students for the study were selected using the technique of fishbowl draw (lottery). The main tool for data collection was test. The test items were administered to assess the guided writing ability of the students. Five different test items were selected. Each question carries 10 marks. All questions were subjective in nature. The same test items were used for both pre-test and post-test. Lesson plans and teaching materials were other supporting tools. The main finding of this study is that teaching guided writing through picture strip technique is more effective than usual way of classroom teaching. This thesis is divided into four chapters. Each chapter is divided into different sub-chapters. The first chapter begins with introduction to the history of ELT in Nepal, Language Skills, role of technique in language teaching, teaching aids and their importance, visual aids, picture strip story, picture strip story as a technique in language teaching , effectiveness of picture strip stories in teaching language skills, teacher’s role in picture strip story technique,advantages of using strip story in language classroom as in general background and review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study are other sub-chapters. The second chapter includes the sources of data collection,sample population of the study, sampling procedure, and tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitation of the study. The third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of data, which has been done on the basis of the comparison between different marks obtained by students of both groups in pre and post tests. The fourth chapter includes the findings and recommendations with the help of analysis and interpretation of collected data.The final part of the thesis includes references and appendices.Item Grade Nine Students' Proficiency in Guided Writing(Department of English Education, 2016) Gupta, SaraswotiThe present study entitled Grade Nine Students’ Proficiency in Guided Writing aimed at finding out the grade nine students’ proficiency in guided writing and comparing their writing proficiency in terms of private vs government aided school students, and boys vs girls. The populations of this study were grade nine students of Tulsipur Municipality of Dang district consisting of 30 students. The sampled students were selected from two schools viz Tridev English Boarding School, Tulsipur-3 Shreegain, Dang and Shree Guru Jajur Higher Secondary School in Rakshyachaur-2, Tulsipur, Dang District using purposive non-random sampling procedure and the students were selected using judgmental sampling procedure. The study used test items as tool for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative techniques. The findings of the study showed that most of the students were well proficient in guided writing because their aggregate obtained above the average (i.e. pass) marks. Similarly, in term of school-wise comparison private school students were more proficient than government aided schools. In the same way, in term of gender-wise comparison, boys were more proficient than the girls. The study consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter consists of review of both theoretical and empirical literature with their implications and conceptual framework. Similarly, the third chapter deals with methodology containing design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures, data analysis and interpretation procedures, and ethical considerations. The fourth chapter includes analysis of data and interpretation of the results. The fifth chapter is focused to findings, conclusion and recommendations. References and appendices have also been attached at the end.Item Proficiency of grade ten students on guided writing(Department of English Education, 2017) Giri, BirendraThe thesis entitled Proficiency of Grade Ten Students on Guided Writing aimed to find out the proficiency of grade ten students on guided writing in terms of content, grammar, organization, selection of vocabulary and punctuation and compare their proficiency on the basis of gender variations. I used survey research design to carry out the research work. To meet the objectives of my research I selected thirty students from two different schools of Pyuthan district by using judgmental sampling procedure. I used test items as a tool for data collection. From the study, it was explored that proficiency of grade ten students on guided writing is not satisfactory in whole but it varies from item to item. The students of grade ten are far more proficient in paragraph writing compared with other items and less proficient in narrating events. Girls are found to be more proficient than the boys with variation of 1.27 average mark. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms. The main aim of this study is to measure the effectiveness of picture in teaching guided writing at basic level (Grade-5). It has been carried out partially and comparatively. It is an experimental research. To carry out the research,thirty students of grade five studying at 'Phewa Secondary English Boarding School'situated at Kerabari-10, Morang were selected as sample population. The sampling procedure of this study was purposive sampling procedure under non-random sampling procedure. The major tools for the collection of the data were test. The mode of the test was written. A pre-test was administered before teaching to determine the proficiency of the students at first.Then, they were divided into two groups on the basis of their sources of the pre-test. After teaching thirty periods to both groups, post was administered. Then, both tests were compared to determine the effectiveness of the pictures. The main findings of this research were that teaching guided writing through pictures at grade five is more effective than teaching without using pictures. If the teachers use pictures in teaching writing skill inside the classroom, student's learning achievement can be better than those who are not taught using pictures. The thesis has been organized into five chapters. The first chapter includes introduction, background of the study, statement of the problem, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and definition of the terms used.
