Shrestha's poems deal with both common people's aspiration for social change by retelling the myth ofArjunand Urvashi. In Shrestha's poems, male characters are depicted as rational, intellectual and visionary while female characters are shown physically weak and emotional who are even held responsible for the downfall of male characters. And hence, women characters are misrepresented despite their contributions in the personal and social life. This study employs theoretical concept of misrepresentation as discussed by Stuart Hall and other feminist theorists like Simon de Beauvoir and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak. The nonwestern characters in Kincaid’s Among Flowers: A Walk in the Himalaya are subjected to various harrowing experiences. This text presents Sunam,, Khenpo and Rimpoche as representative nonwestern people. Tibetans have their own lifestyle, culture, civilization and attitude to native people. Kincaid portrays the troubled relation between the non-west and west. The entire regional culture and geography of Tibet, Nepal and India appears to be an exotic land caught in the turmoil and tension created by the conflicting interests of various power centers. The zone is stereotyped as the defeated, sterile, surreal, and static world. Most of the characters in this text are found humiliated, defeated, and resigned to their lives due to systematic marginalization of the west. In the movie, director Caro has depicted the female protagonist Mulan in men’s disguise. Mulan has played masculine role. She follows men's dress, goes to the battlefield, and does not obey the patriarchal systems. Although the movie seems to be feministic from surface level, the characters in the movie are not free from patriarchy. This research claims that in the name of equality, freedom, feminism, the director, Niko Caro has not let female characters celebrate her differences.
