Item Communication Strategies Adopted By Teachers and Students At B. ED. Level(Department of English Education, 2012) Dhakal, AnitaThe present study entitled “Communication strategies adopted by B.Ed level teachers and students” attempted to investigate the types of communication strategies adopted by B.Ed level teachers and students in Kathmandu district.To accomplish this study, a set of questionnaire was formulated and distributed to 30 students and classes of five teachers were observed. The data collected from the respondents were analyzed and interpreted to explore the types of communication strategies used by them. The overall findings of the study present that the majority of the teachers use communication strategies to enhance the productive skills of the students and both the teachers and the students used twenty two different communication strategies i.e. asking,guessing, simplification, synonym, antonym, definition, paraphrase, description,exemplification, translation, language switch, gesture, substitution, repetition,explanation,foreignization, mime, word coinage, code switch, topic avoidance,circumlocution, generalization. This study consists of four chapters. The first chapter introduces the study in terms of general background, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study and the definition of the specific terms.Likewise, the second chapter deals with the methodology applied to conduct the study. It consists of the sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, and research tools for data collection, process of data collection,limitations of the study and procedure of data analysis. Similarly, the third chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of the raw data obtained from respondents. The data were analyzed and interpreted by using statistical tools and presented with the help of tables etc. Finally the fourth chapter deals with the findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications of this study.Item Using Native Language in ELT Classroom: A Study on Perception(Department of English Education, 2015) Tamang, Santa KumarThis research work entitled ‘Using Native Language in ELT Classroom: A Study on Perception’ has been carried out to find out the purpose of using native language in ELT classroom, its advantages and disadvantages and to digout the perceptions of teachers and students of secondary level regarding the use of native language in ELT classroom. The researcher used purposive non random sampling procedures to select twenty secondary level English language teachers and fifty students of grade nine and ten from Panchthar district.Two sets of questionnaire were used to gather the teachers' and students' perceptions. The data collected from the respondents were analyzed and interpreted to meet the objectives of the study. It was found that the students used their native language to ask questions and put their problems to their teachers. On the other hand, the teachers used it for cultural translation and for breaking the monotony of the students. Moreover, it was perceived that native language was used to find out the main idea of the text in shorter time but it hindered developing communicative competence in the target language on the part of learners. This study is divided into five chapters. Chapter one deals with introduction. It consists of background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. Second chapter deals with the review of related literatures and conceptual framework. Likewise, third chapter includes the methods and procedures of the study. It consists of population and the sample of the study, sampling procedures, tools for data collection, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedures. The fourth chapter deals with the results and discussions of the collected data. Similarly, the collected data were described, analyzed and interpreted descriptively. Finally, the last chapter deals with the summary, conclusion and interpretation on the basis of analyses and interpretation done.
