Item “Prevalence of Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Jutpani V.D.C. Chitwan, Nepal”(Department of Zoology, 2013) Amgain, KapilTuberculosis (TB) is one of the major public health problems in the developing countries like Nepal. With the objective to determine the situation of TB in Jutpani VDC, the present study was carried out from the month of July 2012 to December 2012. During the study period, a total of 600 sputum samples from 200 TB suspected patients, 225 sputum samples from 75 family members of TB patient currently under DOTS and 117 sputum samples from 39 DOTS completed TB patients were collected and examined in the Laboratory of Jutpani Primary Health Center (PHC). Diagnosis was made after staining the sputum smear by Z-N staining method and examined under light microscope. A questionnaire survey of 57 PTB patients was done to access their knowledge, attitude and preventive practice for TB. Out of 200 TB suspected patients, 18 (9%) were found to be AFB positive. Among patients diagnosed as having Pulmonary Tuberculosis (PTB), higher number (55.56%) of males than females (44.44%) were found which was found to be statistically insignificant (2cal. = 0.4524, P<0.01). Highest prevalence of TB infection (36.89%) was found to be in the age group of 30-40 year. All family members (75) screening of the 16 PTB patients currently undergoing DOTS treatment were found sputum negative. Similarly, screening of DOTS completed PTB patients (39) of Jutpani VDC were also found to be negative. Prevalence of TB was found to be highest in Jutpani VDC in comparison to other VDC under Jutpani PHC. Majority of the patients had acceptable attitudes but the knowledge regarding cause, transmission, prevention of the tuberculosis was not adequate. So there is still a need to strengthen the knowledge of TB through mass media to public level.Item Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Risk Factors of Multidrug-Resistant (MDR) among Mdr-tb Patients Registered at Lumbini Zonal Hospital(Department of Zoology, 2015) Paudel, SitaTuberculosis is still a major public health problem in developing countries like Nepal which has turned to a deadly form multidrug-resistant. A case-control study with 50 MDR-PTB patients as cases and 63 drug susceptible pulmonary tuberculosis patient as control was carried out to identify risk factors associated with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) at Lumbini Zonal Hospital. Irregularity in taking medicine (OR = 2.36), large family size (OR = 2.40), farming as occupation (OR = 2.83), past history of TB and bovine at home (OR = 6.5) were identified as risk factors. By screening 400 sputum samples from 200 TB suspected patients using Z-N staining method, 24 (12%) cases were found to be AFB positive. Prevalence of PTB in male and female was 14.50% and 7.25% respectively. Similarly, higher infection was found among the people of age group 41-50 years (16%). Most of the PTB patients had lower secondary level educational attainment (19.05%) and had involved in service (18.37%). In a questionnaire survey of same 200 TB suspected patients done to assess their knowledge, attitude and preventive practices for TB, knowledge regarding nature of disease, symptoms, route of transmission and prevention of TB was not adequate.Item Retrospective Assessment of the Trend of Tuberculosis (TB) at Lumbini Provincial Hospital During 2015 to 2020 along with Knowledge Attitude and Practice among TB Patients(Department of Zoology, 2021) K.C, ShreestiPulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious bacterial disease infecting the lungs caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The morbidity and mortality due to TB is decreasing in trend in most of the countries. To assess the disease trend particularly in Lumbini province as well as people's current perception of the disease, a retrospective analysis of the disease along with the Knowledge, attitude and practices (KAP) survey was carried out at Lumbini Provincial Hospital (LPH). Five years of data analysis of the Lumbini Provincial Hospital from 2015 AD indicated that the disease condition was in a steady state with slight increase (9.5%) in 2016/17. Suspected people seeking a diagnosis of TB in the hospital seems continuously increased from 2015 to 2020. TB prevalence for the last 5 years indicated 7.25% using AFB smear microscopy and 36.47% by Xpert MTB/RIF method. Males were found highly infected compared to female and mostly infected age group were 15-30 years. Similarly based on caste group Madeshi and Janjati people were found highly infected compared to others. Questionnaire survey results indicated that awareness of the disease is high but the knowledge of symptoms and route of the disease transmission is unsatisfactory. For preventive practices of the disease that people followed seems poor. Hence, the disease condition is still worsening the life of the people in the province. To reduce the disease burden, community-focused awareness and preventive program are recommended.
