There are altogether 27 homestays in this village out of them 20 household were interviewed. This study is based on both primary and secondary data. More specifically, it is based on Primary data collected using questionnaire through field survey in the study area. This Village was selected because Sirubari village is regarded as the first rural village in Nepal who initiated rural tourism and homestay program. The place is famous for its homestay. Many domestic as well as international tourists visited here every year. The local community seems to be more interested and aware on the development of tourists in this area. Moreover, the respondents believe this operation has helped in local economy, society and environment. It is also found that accommodation facilities of Sirubari are sufficient for tourists at present condition. Homestay owners earn more than 25000 per month from the tourists. Homestay brings positive as well as negative impact in the lifestyle of people. To a large extent, it brings positive changes in the lifestyle like maintaining cleanliness, preserving cultural performances in the village. Homestay program widens the horizon of the knowledge of the people in different sectors. Local organizations play great role in the running homestay. It shows that there is a great potentiality of rural tourism in Nepal. Homestay also helps to increase the employment opportunities and local people living standard. Likewise, it is helpful for the conservation of the environment in order to maintain environmental balance in the village. Furthermore, it plays pivotal role in the preservations of traditions, culture and customs of the village.Item Homestay and its Effect in Rural Tourism (A Case of Chitre Homestay, Parbat)(Department of Sociology, 2021) Lamichhane, BishalTourism is the world's fastest growing industry. Nepal is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with lofty snow-capped mountains and scenic, peaceful settings. It has varieties of tourism resources, places of natural beauty, historical and cultural monuments, art, architecture, and festival set which are the best attractions to the foreign visitors in Nepal. Among various tourists are attractions in Nepal. Chitre is one of the most scenic tourist destinations in Nepal. It is a land of natural scenery, the rich biodiversity, peaceful environment, and the ethnic diversity, the rich and diverse culture which attract visitors. The study was conducted to examine the role of Chitre Homestay for the promotion of rural tourism along with problems of tourism in Modi Rural Municipality. The universe of the study has been sampled from the Chitre. The homestay owners were the sample respondents and the sample size were 27 for the study. The study is based on primary data collection direct fill up the structure questionnaire in Chitre community homestay. The researcher own-self participated to collect primary data by using data collection techniques and tools like structure questionnaire, key informants’ interview and so on. Findings of the study revealed that there is high potentiality of tourism in Chitre because it has numerous tourism interest places such as the peak, the cultural activities, agriculture farming attraction. Local people were found very much interested and devoted for promoting tourism in the study area but there seems lack of co-ordination among the government authorities and local promoters and also lack of fund. In conclusion homestay helps to increase the employment opportunities and local people living standard. Likewise, it is helpful for the conservation of the environment in order to maintain environmental balance in the village further more, it plays pivotal role in the preservation of traditions, culture and customs of the village.Item Impact Analysis of Rural Tourism: The Case of Ghandruk Village of Annapurna Rural Municipality Kaski(Department of Rural Development, 2021) Devkota, HimalTourism is an investment which provides immense benefits to countries comparatively at a low cost. A brand-new concept of village tourism is where the guests are taken to unspoiled villages where tourists spend a few days living with the local people and being treated as honored family guests. The present study entitled on "Impact Analysis of Rural Tourism: The Case of Ghandruk village of Annapurna Rural Municipality" explains how tourism activity influenced the society who lived in the study area. The impact that is elaborated in this study is “Economic, Socio- Cultural and Environmental impacts”. Ghandruk village is a gateway to Annapurna base camp where hotels, tourism destinations are built. Every year national and International tourists visits the study area. This tourism activity affects the society. Those bring both positive and negative sides of economic, socio- cultural and environment. This study has taken explorative as well as descriptive research design and has analyzed both qualitative and quantitative approach. The research is located in Ghandruk. Respondents of this research were 20% of total households (total household 612). The primary data was collected through observation, interview, and questionnaire and focus group discussions with selected respondents. Likewise, Secondary data was collected through various sectors like annual reports, newspapers, articles, published and unpublished documents, books and relevant materials related to subject matter are used. The main objectives of the study are to analyze the economic and social impact of village tourism that has occurred in the study area. The advantages and disadvantages rose among economic, socio- cultural and environmental impacts. Educational status of sampled population is found to be satisfactory. Ethnic and cultural diversity is the main feature of this area. Agriculture is found as the main occupation of the sample population, where 72.36% persons are engaged in agriculture as a main occupation. Gurung cultural and traditional practices are unique. Medicinal herbs, rare wild animals, various kinds of wild animals, different kind of birds and plants falls, hospitable behavior of local people are the major sources of attraction of tourists in study area.Item Impact of Rural Tourism : A Case Study of Bhujung Village : of Kwhlosothar Rural Municipality, Lamjung(Department of Rural Development, 2018) Pandit, SujanA thesis entitled"Impact of Impact of rural tourism: a case study of bhujung Village of Kwhlosothar Rural Municipality, Lamjung".The objectives of the study to find out socio cultural impact of rural tourism in Bhujung and to assess the economic impacts of rural tourism in Bhujung. The arrivals of tourists in 2016 (63) and 2017 (156) are fluctuating in Bhujung Bhujung area is one ofthe popular Home stay destinations in Lamjung . The majority of tourists arriving Bhujung by purpose of visit are the following: cultural study 35%,ACAP’s area and tea garden visit 23%, pleasure 27% and 15% for others in 2016.The majority of foreigners visiting Bhujung are age group 16-30 years of age 44%,followed 32% percent on 31-45 and 46-60 years group are 24 percent. The 60 percent of total tourists were found to stay for 1 day, 20 percent were found to spend 2 days, and during survey period.12 percent 3 days and 4 and 5 days were 4 percent respectively.The majority of tourists (48%) spend Nepalese rupees 500-1000, 38 %spend rupees 1000-1500, 12 % spend rupees 1600-2000 and 8% spend 2100-2500 Nepalese rupees.. There are 16 Home Stay with 26 rooms and 52 beds. The Local Besisahar is the nearest market and therefore it seems to benefit from home stay. The Home stay area of Bhujung village is awareness of the cleanness inside and outside of houses. Home stay owner are unknown about benefit of advertising. Tourism planning should also maintain the spatial perspective lacking of spatial perspective is the indication of failure of tourism planning. To promote the tourism and sustain it for the long future there should be maintained harmonies tourist oriented activities like environment sanitation security etc.Government should try to increase the tourism infrastructures and other facilities road, communication and health facilities should be improved. The number of the bed rooms and number of homes in ‘Bhujung Home stay’ should be increased.Item Impact of Rural Tourism in Ghale Gaun (A Case Study of Ghale Gaun, Lamjung District, Nepal)(Department of Rural Development, 2016) Rai, KripaThe study titled "Impact of Rural Tourism in Ghale Gaun, Lamjung District in Western Nepal" was conducted in Ghale Gaun located in Lamjung district. Tourism is the largest industry in Nepal, and the largest source of foreign exchange and revenue. Rural tourism focuses on participating in a rural lifestyle. It can be a variant of ecotourism. Any village can be a tourist attraction, and many villagers are very hospitable.There are lots of places of rural tourism emerging in Nepal.In term of Nepal, organized rural tourism was first practiced by Sirubari ,Bandipur, Ghandruk, Ghale Gaun villages, which was totally a new concept and ideas in Nepal. Ghale Gaun is a beautiful village of Lamjung distict, which lies to the northwest of Khudi at the elevation of 2095 meters. It is approximately 20.5 km North West of Kathmandu and 12.5km north east of Pokhara. Ghale Gaon once a sphere of Ghale kings before 18th century presently consists of 106 households comprising Gurungs, Ghales and some Chhetri and Biswakarma under Uttarkanya VDC, 1,2 and 3 wards. The overall purpose of the study was to identify the impact of rural tourism in Ghale Gaon. Impact on economy (monthly income), environmental change and social cultural change was identified by conducting a survey among household respondents, semi structured interview with the tourist and KII with the experts of rural tourism. Descriptive research design was used to conduct the study. Research Instruments like Survey questionnaire, semi- structured interview schedule and Key Interview Guideline was developed. Accidental sampling technique was used for sample collection with the tourist and a survey was conducted with the household respondents. Collected data was analyzed in SPSS version and data was calculated using descriptive statistics. For the reliability and validity of the instrument, continue consultation with experts, supervisor and literature review was done throughout the study .Similarly, Pretest with ten of the respondents was done in Nagarkot home stay . vi The findings of the study indicate that rural tourism has increased the daily income of the local residents and most of the people were attracted in this business. Similarly, the findings also indicate that slowly the concept of internal tourism is being emerged in our society. The local people could communicate with the foreigners and were also known with the culture of the foreigners. Unmanaged waste and littering was commonly seen as an environmental problem. At the same time, alcoholism and fight was mostly common in ghale gaun. Along with that the infrastructure of schools, house was also changed and modified. The result of the study will help to determine the impact of rural tourism in the life of the villagers and also helps policy makers in Nepal by providing required information. To conclude,there are various limitations and challenges to tackle in rural tourism business.At the same time, rural tourism is slowly taking its roots in Nepal.The continuous growth of rural tourism in recent years, however, has shown the positive sign. Tourism has great potentials worldwide. It is considered as a ‘smokeless industry’ and has grown up very fast in the last few decades. Nepal is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with lofty snows capped mountains and scenic, peaceful settings, making Nepal one of the highly potential countries for world tourist’s destination. Tourism industry is highly growing industry in Nepal as there are lots of places across the country, among them Lamjung district is one of the best destinations. Lamjung, a district that falls under the Gandaki Province, western part of Nepal has lots of rural areas that can be developed as best destination for tourist who wants to enjoy rural life style and scenic beauty. Among those beautiful and highly potential area for rural tourism Bajhakhet area is one of them. The general objective of the study was to explore tourism opportunity and challenges in Besishahar Municipality-10, Bajhakhet. Whereas specific objectives of the study were to explore the natural and cultural attractions of this study area, assess the involvement of local people in the tourism industry, analyze the challenges, in order to develop study area as rural tourism destination. This study has been carried out mostly on the basis of exploratory research design, also descriptive method of research design is used in order to describe the findings during the study. Qualitative and quantitative data have been collected for the study using both primary and secondary sources. Out of the total 133 households, 14 households having home-stay service, 17 household without having home stay service, 10 representatives from different sectors, all together 41 respondents have been selected. To collect data, household survey, key informant interview, observation, method have been used and different computer program, simple statistics tools like table, graphs, have been used for data analysis and descriptive methods has been used for qualitative data. Study area has huge possibility to be one of the best tourist destinations. Different attractions like, Gurung/Ghale culture, natural beauties, well conserved community xi forest, typical rural lifestyle, clean environment, can be the reason for visiting this area. The involvement of local people in the tourism industry with their warm hospitality with traditional and cultural ritual encourage tourist to visit that place. Development of hiking route up to Barahapokhari, developing the trekking route for Dr. Harka peak, linkage with NTB and MoCTCA, Co-ordination among tourism committee and villagers, establishment of information center can definitely help to emerge this place as one of the major tourist destinations of the country. I believe that this thesis will contribute in some level for the promotion of the study area as tourist’s destination area, and helps to determine this area as a place having high potentiality for tourism. The general objectives of this study are to examines and explore the potentialities of tourism development in the Meghauli VDC. Similarly it also help to identify the challenges of tourism in Meghauli VDC. A research study of prospects and problems of tourism in Meghauli VDC conducted to determine the problems and prospects of tourism there. This study is based on both primary and secondary data which are obtained by field observation, interview with concern stakeholders like: tourist, local residents, hotel owners, shopkeepers, different personalities and so on. The total number of population recorded in Meghauli is 16252.Number of male is 8219 and female is 8033. Economy is agro-based. Basic infrastructures such as roads, communication, drinking water supply, health service and security measures are in existence. However they need to be upgraded. Based on the attractions available at Meghauli associated activities for the tourists are envisage being cultural program, picnicking,visitingChitwan National Park and observing its Bio-diversity. Similarly other attractions are Meghauli village, the unique pattern of Tharu aborigine, Wildlife safari (riding on an elephant,. The community forests and Machan towers, Jungle watch and bird watching, National museum and crocodile project, World elephant polo and Para jumping, Joint-venture (Confluence of two big rivers Rapati and Narayani rivers), Sunset and clear mountain views, Boating and rafting trips,Typical Nepali and Tharu Cultural Programms, Home stays Programme, An amalgam place for Religious sites and Eco park (Children Park, picnic spot, camping spot, Tharu aborigine museum, open zoo, lodges, crocodile project, gardorn sovenier center, Seminar hall etc. are under construction). Meghauli VDC has many tourist destinations, unique natural beauties and various cultural specialties of its own and the sustainable and vision-full exploitation of these destinations offer a wide range of comparative advantages for which suitable and effective plan is needed. Increase in business and increase in resident's income are most beneficial areas of tourism in Meghauli VDC. With the major attractive areas for tourists like Golaghat Chitwan National Park, Bikram, and others,Meghauli VDC demands visionful plan for adequately managed tourism and bring more positive benefit. There is no exact official record available of the tourist visit in Meghauli. So, this is necessary for making future plan related with the tourism in the study area. In the view of its potential for the tourism development, the local community is seen to be more interested and aware on the development of this area jointly as tourist destination. There are no so good accommodation and catering facilities for tourists but recently home-stayprogramme is launched which is found very popular.Though again, most of the house owner told that if they got the financial as well as other support they are ready to serve tourists as their demand. Tourism awareness campaign (with inclusion of topics such as tourism, its benefits, likely negative impacts, and measures to avoid such impacts) should be addressed to all community members, focusing on specific skill training programs. Besishahar is the districts headquarter. This district has lots of rural areas that can be developed as best destination for tourist who wants to enjoy rural life style and scenic beauty. Among those beautiful and highly potential area for rural tourism Beshishahar Munipalicity, Kualepaniarea is one of them, which is around hour away from district headquarter Besishahar. The general objective of the study was to explore tourism potentiality and challenges in Kaulepani area ofLamjung district. Whereas specific objectives of the study were to explore the natural and cultural attractions of this study area, assess the involvement of local people in the tourism industry, analyze the challenges, in order to develop study area as rural tourism destination. I believe that this thesis will contribute in some level for the promotion of the study area as tourist’s destination area, and helps to determine this area as a place having high potentiality for tourism. This study might be useful for the exposure of Kaulepani area and hope that this thesis will contributes to increase the number of tourists in study area.Item Potentiality and Challenges of Rural Tourism: A Case Study of Swargadwarikhal VDC-1, Pyuthan District, Nepal(Department of Rural Development, 2016) Resmi, Amar BahadurThe study, “Potentiality and Challenges of Rural Tourism” was carried out in Swargadwarikhal VDC-1, Dhanbang Pyuthan. Three folds specific objectives of the study area are: to explore the natural and cultural attractions of this study area, assess the involvement of local people in the tourism industry; analyze the challenges, in order to develop study area as rural tourism destination. This study employed both exploratory as well as descriptive research design, so 35 households were sampled using stratified sampling from the universe of 50 households. The study was mainly based on primary information. The quantitative and qualitative primary data were collected through household survey, interview, FGD and important relevant data from secondary source. From the study, it was found that deep concern of the respondents about the potentiality of tourism was one of the major factors behind the success. The norms and values of most people, 30 respondents likes tourists from each household. 30 respondents found to be aware about the huge potentiality to attract the tourists through natural scene, 20 respondents were found unemployed and had the feeling to involve as a tourist guide in order to explore the tourism sector, 26 respondents have feeling that socio-cultural and religious values has potential to offer the tourists ,21 respondents stated about the potentiality of Home stay facilities and 20 respondents had prior awareness that, picnic spot and religious temple had great potentiality in order to attract the tourists. Development of View tower, development of leadership, awareness programme about the benefits of tourism, development of participatory attitude and desire for participating in tourism development activities, involvement in welcoming tourists were main potentiality of tourism in developing the tourism industry. Drinking water facilities, awareness to the public about tourism by establishing bonds and coordination among community members, extension of roadways, construction of view tower, developing trekking and short hiking routes, linkage with the NTB and government agencies, developing a package system to increase the tourists visiting days are recommended for the future development of tourism industry in Swargadwarikhal VDC-1.Item Potentiality of Sustainable Rural Tourism of Karnali Gateway Surkhet(Department of Rural Development, 2006) Pant, Ram KumarThe study entitled "Potentiality of Sustainable Rural Tourism of Karnali Gateway of Surkhet" has the following objectives. To highlight the potential areas and investigate the flow of tourist. To identify the problem of tourism and analyze socio economic impact of tourism in Surkhet. To study the future prospects of tourism development in Surkhet and recommend policies to develop it. The study is based on both primary and secondary data using purposive sampling on the basis of quota sample method. More specifically, it is based on primary data collected using questionnaire through field survey in the study area. Based on the study it has been found that Surkhet is located at the gateway of entire Karnali region. It is a place of famous archeological cultural and religious importance. It is also a place of god gifted natural assets, mountain, lakes, river basin, wild life, favourable climate and other attractions which will be great interest for the tourist. This place looks attractive for both domestic and International tourists. In the view of its potential for the tourism development, the local community and local bodies must be interested and aware on the development of this area jointly as tourist destination. It is delighting to see more domestic tourist in the field, mostly for the purpose of official visit. Every facilities of accommodation like home stay and hotels are available in Surkhet in cheap price. Tourism being not developed, its impact has been found positive in Surkhet It has also found that Surkhet has basic infrastructural facilities and enormous tourist attracting features, which should be upgraded under the active participation of the local people. It can also be developed as a hub of Karnali Rural Tourism which adds more support for the sustainable rural tourism development of Surkhet.Item Prospect of Developing Rural Tourism in Dhankuta District (A Case Study of Danda Bazar VDC)(Department of Rural Development, 2006) Iwahang, SuratDhankuta is such a place where there are many places and things famous for its own identification. These resources have high potentialities I use for the tourist attraction. Danda Bazar also such district places which have high susceptible destination to develop from tourist point of view.Still, promotion and development of the places have not been managed properly. Due to the above factors, this research, hope, carries its significance. The objective of the study are to highlight the natural sceneries of Danda Bazar, to analyze the potentialities of culture tourism of the respective area, to show the potentialities of agro-based tourism and to highlight the potentialities of religious tourism. To meet the mentioned objectives various methodologies were used in this report. Major findings of the study showed that the business tourism of Danda Bazar VDC, there are active tourism organization who have been working with up to date membership in local level from which business tourism can advance. Local leadership for thorough development oftourism is working through community Cooperation in the tourism manag 3 ement and extension. Basic infrastructure and facilities are available in Danda Bazar for the development of rural tourism. Land use plan in Danda Bazar is being developed. The areas for agriculture, roads and tourism spots are managed there. This place is going to famous for domestic as well as international tourist from its potential for the tourism development, the local people are seen to be more interested and aware on the development of this area jointly as tourist destination. The study area has several aspects of tourism products. The study has regarded potential for the promotion of village tourism because the area is rich in natural and cultural heritage. The Gurung people with their unique culture, tea garden, ACAP area and beautiful seen of Annapurna range plays significant role in tourism cultural products of the Gurung community are better understanding of tourist attractions. According to the LHDC personnel more than 0.03 % of the tourists visited Lwang Ghalel village among the tourists who come to Pokhara. The average length of stay of tourists was only 1 day before 2 years but now it has been increasing. According to home stay owners now days the average stay of tourists in Lwang ghalel village is 1.5 days. The arrivals of tourists in 2067 (63) and 2068 (156) are fluctuating in Lwangghel. The majority of tourists arriving Lwang Ghalel by purpose of visit was the following: cultural study 35%, Night camping 23%, pleasure 27% and 15% for others in 2067. The majoring of foreigners visiting Lwang Ghalel on the age group 16-30 years of age 44%, followed 32% percent on 31-45 and 46-60 years group are 24 percent. The research found that, 55% of tourists were from Nepal and 45% from abroad. Mainly 21-50 years age groups of tourists were visit around Gorkha Durbar. Most of the tourists were visit for the study of village people and culture. The largest numbers of tourists likes to visit in autumn season and mostly they stay one night and two days. Gorkha Durbar is a famous historical place of Nepal. So, it has great scope in the tourism field. Tourism is foremost economy change all over the world, that growing awareness of the direct, indirect effects of tourism one employment value added personal income, government income and so on. Rural tourism is relatively, new phenomenon, which means tourism development in local setting at the stage of rural belief, values, norms, and religious practices, their daily home practices, family relation, agriculture etc. It makes their own world and a kind of circuit where people round around and create new interest to recreation and leisure in natural environment. Beautiful country Nepal situated in the lap of Himalayan located in between 26º04' E to 30º 27’ E latitude and 80º 08'N to 88º 12' N longitude. It is very rich in natural, cultural historical assets and ethnical and cultural diversity. There are diversity in language and cultural alive, people harmony and unity, people friendly with smiling faces in Nepal. Nepal has occupied only 0.1 percent land of the mars of the earth which is home of 2 percent of all the flowering plants in the world, 8 percent of the world population of the bird (More than 848 species), 4 percent of mammals, 11 percent of the world families of butterfly (more than 500 species), 600 indigenous plants families and 319 species of exotic orchid. The study area includes two VDCs, Kaskikot VDC and Sanangkot VDC of Phewa Lake watershed area which lie on Southern part of the Kaski District. Geographically study area is located at 28º14' N to 28º16' N latitude and 83º 39' E to 83º 58' E longitude, on the north-west part of the Pokhara Sub-metropolitan city. Its elevation ranges from 793m to 1786m Kashap Hill the highest Summit point of the study area. The total area of the study is 42.68km2. The average maximum temperature and Minimum temperature of the area is 30ºc and 7ºc. The average rainfall of this study area is 300mm. The total household and total population of the study area is 2666 and 13152 according to Census Report 2001. There are recorded 21 ethnic caste groups and Literacy Rate is 53.7 percent. The main occupation of this area is agricultural and some are linked with other services. A little bit physical and social infrastructures are built on the study area but they are only in satisfactory condition and among them drinking water condition is in the poor condition. There are twenty-four educational institutions including one higher secondary school. There are some institution, both government institution and non-government which are help and work for the development the study area. The main aim of this study was to explore the natural, cultural and historical assets of the study area. This study was also focused to introduce the geographical location, to access the socio-cultural status and to assess the tourism impact of the study area too. Both qualitative and quantative method were employed for this study. This study was based on both the primary data and secondary data. This secondary data were from census reports, journals, books, DEO reports, Village profiles, etc. related to the study area and tourism. Similarly, the primary data were collected from interview with local people, and field observation of the study area. There was taken 80 sample from two VDC. This study is limited to examine rural tourism potential of the study area and to assess impact of tourism on the study area. The main findings of this study are as follows: 1. Nepal is the ultimate tourism destination of the world. 2. Nepal has highly potential rural tourism resources. 3. Study area is historical place which was the habitant of the pre-historic men. 4. Study area has potential for adventure tourism for example rock climbing, mountain bike, and paragliding. 5. Natural attractions, like view of Phewa Lake, Phewa-plant, view of Pokhara valley, view of sun-rise and sun-set are natural beauty of the study area. 6. Mostly, cultural practice and activities of the study area performed according to Hindu cultural practices. 7. In term of infrastructure development tourism has played curial role on the study area. 8. The foreigners have donated for the development of the different sector of the infrastructure development on the study area. 9. Tourism has brought change into settlement pattern, housing pattern and family structure of the study area. 10. Lack of well management system of the waste material, pollutant, garbage, litter damage the scenic beauty of the study area and has brought stress on the environment. 11. Tourism has helped to preserve and promote the culture in the study area, uplift economy condition of the local people and it has brought awareness to the local people. Finally this study was recommended that: 1. Master Plan should be prepared for the rural tourism development of study area. 2. The government should be considered decentralizing tourism administration by involving the local community. 3. It should be conserved and preserved from vandalism and theft of items of cultural and natural assets then should be strictly controlled. 4. Advertisement of the study area should be focused. 5. Local people should be provided the knowledge about positive and negative impacts brought by tourism through the training and seminar. 6. Phewa Lake is not only important assets of the study area, but it is important asset of the nation. To keep it alive, Phewa-Lake watershed area should be included as a protected area. 7. Trails, view tower, etc should be constructed at necessary place. 8. Development plan and programs should be directed toward women and disadvantaged groups of the study area At last to improve of the socio-economic condition of local people, we should remember and act above recommendation as our belief, value and tradition such that study area may comes to be model rural tourism destination.
