In exploring morality the playwright examines the system of marriage and other social pretentions of the then society. In the play most of the characters are engaged in extramarital affairs but at the same time they regard themselves as the most virtuous generations of the history. This suggests the ironic lives of Victorian people and their internal corruptions. Outwardly, marriage is a window to see the social life so it is hard to break, at the same time most of the characters lack faithfulness in marital relation. Besides mercenary hunting and social prestige, males marry for his physical needs and female for social security. Exploring these tendencies of the characters as the representative traits, the playwright makes the Victorian society visible to the world.Item Relationship Between Increasing Old Age Allowances and GDP in Nepal(Department of Economics, 2019) Shrestha, NabinAgeing of the population has one of the most important facts that came to the foreground in 21th century and is inevitable fact. Along with this, it’s a challenge to protect the elder population socially and economically for the government, specially developing countries like Nepal which have very small economic share in the world. The aim of this thesis is to know the relationship between old age allowances and GDP along with education expenses and to investigate consequences it can cause. Social protection schemes have historically been weak and fragmented in the region and have failed to keep pace with economic growth. Consequently, old age has too often become an expensive burden for individuals, families, and society. Social protection is not only important in reducing old people’s vulnerabilitypension can also boost economic growth by providing income for individuals and somehow can helps in reducing poverty. Nepal have introduced non contributory pension systems that provide cash benefits to older citizens, but much is yet to be learned about their impact and possible replication in others. Providing old age allowances are not a panacea. Rather, they should be part of a wide ranging set of program and sector reforms. Moreover, the differences in cultures and stages of economic development across the region must also be taken into account. And also, the capability of the country’s administration to support the program also need to be considered and should be addressed. Different researchers had traced that for long run economic growth investing on infrastructure is the most rather than on recurrent expenditure. Some other traced out that the country having more dependent population attracts less FDI. The total Nepalese population has been increasing and elder population above 60 years constitutes 7.99 percent of total population in 2011, which is estimated be 10.2 percent by 2031. Comparing to other South Asia countries Nepal provides highest OAA in terms of cash which is around $20 per month. Thus, to support the objective the correlation has been tested taking two variables; social security expense and expenses on education. The result found that there is positive relation between GDP and expenses on education whereas it is found that there is negative relation between GDP and expenses on allowances to elder population. It means investing on education is better as it will produce skilled human capital which is a need for future, investing on infrastructure will generate the local entrepreneurs and attract investors; both local and international supporting the national economy.Item The role of social security benefits to motivate the Nepalese civil servants(Department of Public Administration, 2013) Paudel, Dilip RajCivil service is the permanent implementation arm of the government and one of the most important pillars of governance machinery which is conducted on the basis of legal rational authority by the officials selected on the basis of merit system. The quality of public service delivery relies, to the greater extent, upon the competency, efficiency and capability of civil service for which civil servants with high motivation and morale are the cornerstone. Therefore, several provisions-monetary and non-monetary- contribute in the maintaining and enhancing the motivation of civil servants are adopted in various laws and bylaws. One of such provisions is the Social Security Benefits (SSB) and the availability of SSB to the civil servants. They have been widely accepted as the major factor of motivation. The evolution of SSB is the result of the emergence of welfare state. It is said that Nepalese civil servants are lacking the high motivation. In this context it is worth studying to see the degree of the relationship between the SSB and level of motivation of civil servant at present. Though various facilities in terms of SSB have been insured by Civil Service Act and other rules, however, only four aspects namely sickness benefits, maternity benefits, provident fund benefits, pension benefits have been considered for this study. This study shows that the provisions and availability of SSB plays positive role in order to motivate civil servants, ensure social justice and protect fundamental rights resulting in the better result. SSB is important for civil servants during and after their service periods for better standard of life and to ensure commitment towards their job. But in our context, the present provisions are not sufficient to do so thereby indicating the need of further enhancement of such provisions in terms of quality and quantity. Nevertheless, different benefit’s role to motivate civil servants is not the same. They have varying degree of impact. This study has not only been successful in highlighting the effectiveness of overall civil service organizations and quality public service delivery but also has unlock new areas for further investigation on the importance of SSB to motivate the civil servants.Item Social Security through Old Age Pension among Madhesi Dalit Senior Citizens (A Case Study of Bhagawanpur VDC, Siraha District)(Department of Population Studies, 2014) Ram, Shyam SundarThe study entitled "Social security through old age pension among Madhesi dalit senior citizens: A case study of Bhagawanpur VDC, Siraha district, Nepal", is a descriptive explanatory type of the study. It has been carried out with the purpose of assessing the status of Madhesi dalits elderly population.
