Item An Analysis of Content Validity of The M.Ed. Course 'Sociolinguistics'(Faculty of English Education, 2012) Bhandari, JyotiThis thesis entitled "An Analysis of Content Validity of the M.Ed. Course Sociolinguistics" attempts to determine the content validity of the annual examination papers of Sociolinguistics Eng.Ed.518. The main objective of this research study was to examine the content validity of the annual examination papers of M.Ed. First Year's course (Sociolinguistics Eng.Ed.518) in terms of content coverage and content weightage. In order to fulfill this purpose, the researcher analyzed the question papers of the year 2066 and 2067 (I) and (II).Only the secondary sources of data were used for this purpose. The question papers were compared and analyzed with course contents in terms of content coverage and weightage. The research findings indicate that the exam paper of Sociolinguistics Eng.Ed.518 have good content validity in terms of content coverage but low content validity in terms of content weightage. The study consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction which consists of general background, review of related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The Second chapter is related to the methodology which consists of sources of data, process of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of the data. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted in terms of content coverage and weightage. The last chapter deals with the findings and recommendations of the study. The findings have been made on the basis of the analysis and interpretation of data. And, on the basis of these findings, some recommendations have been made.Item English Code-Mixing in The Nepal Samacharpatra Daily(Central department of English Education, 2012) Khadga Chandra, Jang Sen ThakuriThis thesis entitled English Code-mixing in the Nepal Samacharpatra Daily attempted to present the study to find out English word classes, phrases, sentences and language functions which are used in the Nepal Samacharpatra Daily. I used non-random judgmental sampling procedure to collect the needed data. Ten issues of the NSP Daily were purposively selected for the study. The overall conclusion of the research is that English code mixing is regular phenomenon in the Nepali newspapers. I found that code mixing in word level was the highest than others. Nouns and noun phrases were mixed highly. The English words and phrases mixed in the newspapers were common. Simple sentences and the language functions as greeting, expressing love, etc. were frequently mixed in the NSP Daily. This thesis consists of four chapters viz. Introduction, Methodology, Analysis and Interpretation of Data and Findings and Recommendations. The first chapter contains introduction, literature review, objectives of the study and significance of the study. Sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study have been dealt with in the second chapter. The third chapter includes the analysis and interpretation of the data elicited. English code mixing in the issues of the NSP Daily is analyzed and interpreted in terms of word classes, phrases, sentence types, and language functions. The fourth chapter includes findings and recommendations on the basis of the study, analysis and interpretation of the daItem English Code-Mixing in the Nepali Novel:Antarman KoYatra(2015) Chand, Dhan BahadurThis study entitled "English Code-Mixing in the Nepali Novel:Antarman Ko Yatra" aimed to identify the mixed English expressions in the novel. The researcher collected data mixed English Code from Nepali novel 'Antarman KoYatra'. To generate relevant data, the researcher used checklist for data collection using the survey research. The required data were gathered by non random sampling procedure.This research study concludes that English code mixing in the Nepali language is heavily found in the Nepali novel: Antarman Ko Yatra. It is due to different factors like author's introduction in the English language, due to linguistic imperialism, due to advancement and rapid expansion of the English language and so on among the mixed English expressions. Word level expressions were high occurrence. The findings of this study shows that out of different English expressions, words are maximally mixed in this novel. Similarly, other categories as major word classes such asverbs, adjectives, adverbs were found in the novel. This research report consists of five chapters. Chapter one deals with general background, statement of problem, objectives, research questions and operational definition of key terms. The second chapter consists of literature review, implication of the literature review and theoretical framework of the study. The third chapter deals with design and methods of the study,population, sample and sampling of the strategy, study area/field, datacollection tools and techniques, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedure. Similarly, the forth chapter covers the analysis and interpretation of results and the last chapter incorporates conclusions and implications of the study. The final section of study incorporates the references and appendices.Item Language Used in Engineering Journals(Faculty of Education, 2009) Paudel, GitaThis present study ‘Language used in Engineering Journals’,adescriptivestudy,hasmade an attempt to find out the kind of language used inEngineering Journals in terms of sentence types, tenses, voices, aspects andspecial vocabularies. This study was mainly based on the secondary sources ofdata.Thedata for the study were collectedjudgmentally from four journals viz.VAASTU-Vol. 6, VAASTU-Vol. 7, Architectural Design and ArchitecturalRecord. The total sample of the study consisted of thirty-two articles. Therequired data were collected by using observation as a main tool. This studyhas revealed that complex sentence; non-past tense,active voice and simpleaspect were highly used in engineering journals. So far as, special vocabulariesare concerned, one hundred and thirty three special vocabularies were found tohave been used.Nouns among majorwords were foundto have been used morefrequently than others. Only four specific adjectives were found. But specificadverbs werenotfound. This thesis is divided into four main chapters and other sub-chapters. The firstchapter dealswith general background of the study, importance of the Englishlanguage, linguistics, sociolinguistics, varieties of linguistic codes, registers,language of engineering, architecture, review of the relatedliterature,objectives, significance of the study and definitions of specific terms of thestudy. Similarly, the second chapter deals with the methodology of the study,sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of datacollection and limitations of the study. Likewise, thethird chapter presentsanalysis and interpretation of the data collected for the study using simplestatistical tools like percentage and frequency. In the same way, the fourthchapter presents the findings and some recommendations of the data. At theend, references and appendices along with some sample texts of engineeringjournals are presented.
