Item A Comparative Study on Gender Based Strategies Used In Teaching Speaking skill(Department of English, 2019) Samba, DiwashThe present study entitled A Comparative Study on Gender based Strategies Used in Teaching Speaking Skill has main objectives to explore the strategies used by English teachers in teaching speaking skill at basic level and examine and compare gender-based variation on the use of strategies while teaching speaking.The required data were collected by using close-ended and open-ended questionnaire.The total samples were forty English language teachers(20 maleand 20 female)from basic schools of Ilam and Jhapa districts. To take the sample for the study, I adopted random sampling procedures. I analyzed and interpreted the collected data from descriptive and statistical point of view.After the analysis and interpretations of data, it was found that narration, role play, correcting,reading aloud, discussion and asking information etc. were often used as strategies to teach speaking skills. Gender variation seen on percentage in using strategies for teaching speaking. Similarly,male and female teachers adopt different strategies to teach asking, responding, grammar, pronunciation, accuracy and conversation for the development of speaking skill. This study consists of fivechapters. Chapter one deals with introduction which includes background of the study, statement of the problem, objective of the study,research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and operational definitions of the key teams.And,Chapter two deals with the review of the different literatures and conceptual framework of the research.Similarly,chapter three deals with the methodology adopted for the study in terms of sources of data,population of the study, sampling procedure, tools and process of data collection and ethical consideration.Likewise, chapter four contains the analysis and interpretation of the data collected from informants.Finally, chapter five deals with the findings, conclusion and recommendations of the study.Item Effectiveness of Communicative Method in Teaching Speaking Skill(Department of English Education, 2011) Ghimire, BhagwatThe present study entitled"Effectiveness of Communicative Method inTeaching Speaking Skill"is an attempt to find out the effectiveness ofCommunicative method in developing grade nine students' proficiency onspeaking skill. In order to carry out this study, the researcher selected thirtystudents of grade nine from a school of Kathmandu district named Mount GlorySecondary School using non-random purposive sampling procedure. Theresearcher used both primary and secondary sources of data. The primary data waselicited from thirty students of grade nine of the selected school. After selectingthe sample population,a pre-test was administered to determine the students'initial proficiency on speaking skill. After that, twenty one lessons were taughtusing communicative method. Two progressive tests were conducted in theinterval of seven days. And, finally, the post-test was administered using the sametest items asked in the pre-test. Through the analysis and interpretation of the data,it was found that communicative method was effective in teaching speaking skill. This study incorporates four main chapters and other many sub-chapters. The firstchapter deals with the general background of the study, review of the relatedliterature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter consists ofthe methodology, data gathering procedure, and limitationsof the study. Similarly,the third chapter includes the analysis and interpretation of data. In the same way,the fourth chapter presents findings and recommendations based on the analysisand interpretation of the collected data. The final part of the study consists ofreferences and appendices.Item Teachers’ Perceptions towards the Use of Tasks Given in the Secondary Level Textbooks(Department of English Education, 2010) Basnet, Yam BahadurThe present study entitled“Teachers’PerceptionsTowardstheUseof TasksGivenintheSecondary LevelTextbooks”attemptstoexplore the teachers’perceptionstowards the use of tasks given in the textbook. To accomplish thisstudy, a set ofquestionnaire was formulated and distributed to 40 secondary levelEnglish teachers in Ilam district. Half of them were fromgovernment-aidedschoolsand rest of themwerefrom the private schools. The data collected fromthe respondentswere analyzed andinterpreted to explore theirperceptionstowardstheuse of tasks given in the textbooksat the secondary level. It was found thatteacherswere familiar with the tasks given in the textbook.The study indicatesthat teachers were familiar with the importance of task for teaching four languageskills. They also opined that teachers’trainingis necessary to make effective useof tasks in teaching English. At the same time, all of them had a common viewthat different factors like large class, untrained teachers affect in the use of tasks inthe classroom. This study consists of four chapters. The first chapter introduces the study in termsof general background, review of the related literature, objectives of the study,significance of the study and definitions of the specific terms. Likewise, thesecond chapter deals with the methodology applied to conduct the study. Itconsists of the sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure,research tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of thestudy. Similarly, the third chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of the rawdata obtained form the respondents. The data were analyzed and interpreted byusing statistical tools and presented with the help of tables etc.Finally, the chapterfour deals with the findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications ofthis study.
