Item Voice of the Voiceless in Jean Sasson's Love in a Torn Land(Department of English, 2018) Tripathi, SumitraLove in a Torn Land, by Jean Sasson, has been analyzed from the subaltern perspective that powerfully subverts not only the elitist ideology but also corrects the Subaltern Studies perspective of the subaltern as being unable to speak and represent themselves. The novel presents the subaltern characters with resistance and self representation, changing their fate and raising their voice against marginalization. They do have the sense of identity which they want to preserve and live with dignity. For this, Joanna, a Kurdish woman, and her husband, the central characters of the novel, try their best to protest the capitalistic war lover mode of society and makes their identity sure. Their endless efforts ultimately offer them their success of fulfilling their dreams.
