Oedipus complexis operativein the relationship among the characters in Nirmala. There is a family which is based on triangular relationshipafather, mother and son. There is sexual attraction between mother and son and father has appeared as an enemy between them who separates them tragically. The whole novel depicts the antagonistic relation between the father and the son. It also portrays the repression of sexual desires and its bad effects. The characters suffer from their innate psychological problems. They have extreme sexual desires but they repress them because of social fear. Many characters are sexually unsatisfied and they make sexual relation with many more lovers. Inhisshort stories the abnormal behaviorse.g.anxiety, fixation, obsession, fear, sexual attempt and aggressionare explicitly shown. Sexual domination of repression brings other symptoms.So most of the characters are motivated by sexual impulses.The charactersindulgethemselves only in the fulfillment of sexual desires. Characters are unhappy victimsof their desires and all characters show the neurotic symptomsare shown bymental disorder and other physical gesture.Theyare depressed and obsessed because of their own sexual appetite and vain desire.Theyaretotally motivated by inner drive and fragmented psyche is clearly shownandare totally overcome by hopelessness, helplessnessandmotor retardation with the feeling of loss. Many critics criticize Maupassant and his stories. They have viewed the storiesfrom the naturalistic and realistic point of view. Very little study has been made regarding psychosexual aspect of Maupassant's stories. So, this research makes an attempt to look into his stories from the perspective of Freudian Psychoanalysis. So this research draws the new sketch of short stories applying psychoanalytical approach on the short stories of Guy de Maupassant.Item Psychological Dilemma in Philip Roth’s Portnoy’s Complaint(Department of English, 2009) Sharma, RajuThe present research work is a critical study of Philip Roth’sPortnoy’s Complaintfrom the perspective of repressive neuro-psychoanalysis. This research paperattempts to delineate the ambivalent stance of Alex Portnoy, an emotionally and psychologically disturbed character, repressed under domineering mother. Alex, a narrator reared in strict household, suffers from feeling of unfulfilled sex, obsession and anxiety. Duty of being a Jew and his desires constantly collide each other. Although he attempts to despise morality electing himself to liberate through sex; sexuality cannot heal his psychological state of dilemma. This makes him a depressed character.
