Item Effectiveness of Oral Drill in Teaching Grammar(Department of English Education, 2011) Lamsal, Prahlad ChandraThis research attems to find out the effectiveness of oral drill in teachinggrammar. For this purpose, the researcher collected data from the students ofgrade five studying at Shree Satyawati Higher Secondary School, Damauli,Tanahun.The total number of students were forty and the students were givenpre-test and post-test using the grammatical test items.A pre-test was taken todetermine the proficiency of the students at entrypoint.Then they were dividedinto two groups on the basis of the odd-even ranking of their roll no. The post-test was administered after twenty-six days teaching using drill technique togroup A (Experimetal ) and by using conventional way of teaching to group B(Control). After taking pre-test and post-test,their scores were tabulated andanalyzed intermsof average difference and its percentage . The pre-test andpost-test results of the two groups (A and B)were compared to find out theeffectivenessof drill technique.Finally, it was found that the group taught withusing drill technique performed better than the group taught with conventional(usual) way of teaching.Hence,it is concluded from the study that drilltechnique has positive effectivein teaching grammar Group A has increased itsaverage percentage with 83.79 against group ‘B’ which has increased itsaverage percentage with 64.09. The present study consists of four chapters. Chapter one consists of generalbackground,review of related literature,objectives and significance of thestudy. Chapter two deals with the methodology of the study.It encompasses thesources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, tools for datacollection and limitation ot the study. Chapter three is concerned with theanalysis and interpretation of the collected data .The data were tabulated andanalyzed on the basis of the test items. Chapter four consists of the majorfindings andrecommendation made after the analysis ofthe data which followsreferences and appendicesItem Role of Project Work for Improving writing Proficiency(Faculty of Management, 2011) Guragain, Dev NarayanThe present study aims to improve writing proficiency of the students of gradeeight through the project work.Main focus of the study was directed on howeffectively students can improve their writing and what problems are withregard to communicative ends of learning English as foreign language. Thestudy, being action research, is believed to be relevant inoffering a realisticpicture of the impact ofrole of project work for teaching writing andto suggestpossible measures in the campaign of makingit a result oriented discipline. Thestudy was carried out using both primary and secondary sources of data.Forprimary data, class eight students of an English medium school were taughtEnglish writing by the researcher in direct involvement and their action(problems, actions and solutions) were recorded in rough sketch which weredaily translated into the report formats. As teaching writing is taken as astressful liability on the part of teachers and students, the study bears the factsof betterroleofproject workfor teaching Englishwriting in the sense that allthe students passed the test andfew students scored thehighest marks. Only afew students showed problems in spellings and use of correct words.Thestudents also showed positive results. Thisthesisisdivided into four main chapters. The first chapter contains generalbackground,writing, characteristics of good writing, stages of development ofwriting, importance of writing, purposes of writing, testing of writing,components of writing, mechanics of writing, action research and project work.The second chapter deals with the methodology adopted to carry out the studysuch as the sources of data, sample population, sampling procedure, tools fordata collection, anddata collection procedures. This chapter also states the limitationsof the study. The third chapter presents analysis and interpretationofthe data. The fourth chapter consists of the findings and recommendationsbased on the analysis and interpretationof data. References and appendixes areattached at the end.
