Item Hybridity and Diaspora in Upamanyu Chatterji’s English, August(Department of English, 2010) Poudel, DipakThe present dissertation explores how Agastya, the protagonist of English, August by Upamanyu Chatterjee gets hybridized and thus turns into a diaspora within his own country because of the colonial hangover prevailing in Indian society. Agastya follows English culture rather than Indian in India and thus becomes August. When Agastya goes to one of the villages of India called Madna as IAS officer, he feels isolated as if he is in a diaspora community as he fails to adjust himself to the native culture.
