Oedipus complexis operativein the relationship among the characters in Nirmala. There is a family which is based on triangular relationshipafather, mother and son. There is sexual attraction between mother and son and father has appeared as an enemy between them who separates them tragically. The whole novel depicts the antagonistic relation between the father and the son. It also portrays the repression of sexual desires and its bad effects. The characters suffer from their innate psychological problems. They have extreme sexual desires but they repress them because of social fear. That repression has caused so many psychological disturbances like anxiety, frustration, depression and mental disorder symptoms in the characters which lead their lives towards death and destruction.
