Item A Study of Teaching Reading in Classroom Activities(Department of English Education, 2009) Ghimire, Krishna PrasadThis thesis has been prepared to identify and analyze classroom activities inteaching reading at gradefour ofpublic schools. In order to carry out this studythe researcher collected data from grade four students of ArghakhanchiDistrict. Classroom observation form was used tocollect the data.Tenteachersand all the studentsstudyingin the class participated in the study.To obtainrelevant information the researcherobservedthe classhimself. Thefindings ofthe study show that a majority of the teachers conducted readingactivities inthe classroom. All the reading passagesweretaught asking questionsandreciting meaning in their mother-tongue. Most of the teachers just askedstudents to read the passagethoroughlywithout reading comprehension.Seventy percent of teachers commonly pointed out to their textbooks and theyexplained the text themselves. The teachers gave attention on reading andwriting than listening andspeaking. Studentmotivation on teaching readingwas found satisfactory. A very few teachers used teaching materials. Studentparticipation and student-student interaction seemed less and most of theclasses were dominated by the teacher. The study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with the introduction. Itconsists of the English language, importance of English language teaching inNepal, objectives of teaching English at primary level, curriculum of readingskills in grade four, language skills, teaching reading,and reviewof the relatedliterature,objective and significance of the study.Chapter two describes themethodology which includes sources of data collection and limitation of thestudy.Chapter three includes the analysis and interpretation of data. It dealswith different classroom activities that are related and practiced to teachingreading skill.Chapter four consists of findings and recommendations made inthe light of findings.Item A Study on Factors Influencing on The Selection of Optional Mathematics at Grade Nine Students of Kaski District(Faculty of Education, 2011) Dhewaju, SujanThis study identifies the factors which manipulate the selection of Mathematics by grade IX student as an optional subject in public secondary schools of Pokhara valley of Kaski District. In current years, what has been found that new students select the other subject except mathematics from the inventory of offered optional subjects. What factors influence those students selecting for the mathematics at grade IX in public school? And what is the present enrollment ratio of optional subject at grade IX in public school? These questions were the foundation of this research work. Data were composed from a case of 60 students from grade IX of public secondary schools of Pokhara valley of Kaski district among them 30 were optional mathematics students and 30 were other optional subjects’ students. Questionnaire form and five point Likert scale type of opinionaire were administered as tool for the compilation.-test was used to investigate the statistics from attitude scale. Interview to the head teacher and subject teachers of sampled school was performed by researcher The result of the study revealed that there was small involvement on optional mathematics in public schools. A main discovery was the first choice of mathematics by students as of their family background and former accomplishment. The majority of student were not conscious for their advance profession. The support and back up of teacher, head teacher, parents was very little for preference of mathematics as optional subject. ACRONYMS
