Abstract: This study Dowry System and it's Impact in Madheshi Community: ASociological Study of Ayodhayanagar Village of Dhangadhimai Municipalityisdone on the basis of primary sources of data. The objectives of this study weretoexamine the cause and effects of spreading dowry system in Madheshi community ofmarried women and men in terms of their age, education, family background andcaste/ethnicity. To explore the impact of dowry system in the study area. The researcher had used exploratory and descriptive research design which hasattempted to discover dowry system and it's impact in Madheshi community. Theinformation was collected through interview, observation and case study. The datawere presented in table.Summary, finding, conclusion and recommendation are madeaccording to findings of the study. Dowry system is a burning problem in the South Asian countries. In Nepal, dowrysystem is moreprevalent in the Terai region of the border side of India.Today, we arein the 21st century. The advancements in new technology have brought a remarkablechange into the life of people. Unfortunately, Nepalese men and women havecompelled to face many problems related to dowry.Almost all respondents havesupported that amount, material (household utensils, valuable things etc.) are theforms of dowry system and both taking and giving materials and amounts are types ofdowry system. "Education and occupations" are the prime determinants of dowry.Along with it both giver and taker groups are main perpetrator for spread of dowrysystem.Moreover, household utensils are given or taken compulsorily as dowry. Theguardian of brides has fulfilled that dowry by "Taking loan" as well as from "Selfincome". It is found that the main reason behind taking or giving dowry is "Influenceof others culture". The major impacts behind the spread of dowry system are the "Psychological factor"and the "Influence by the other's culture". The people in the study area have thepsychological ideology that they should provide dowry to their daughter, no matterhow less the sum amount is, during marriage for respect and tospend happy life in herin-law's house.
