Abstract: The present study entitled ‘Teachers’ Perceptions towards the New EnglishTextbook for Grade Seven’was carried out to identify the teachers’perceptionsonthe new English textbook of grade sevenin terms of the layoutanddesign, activities,language skills, language type, contentand cultural appropriateness. I used surveyresearch designto accomplish this study. Icollected the data from fortygovernmentschool teachers teaching in grade sevenin Bhojpurdistrict.A set of questionnaireconsisting of closed ended questionswas used as the data collection tool. The findingsshowed thatteachers haveappreciatedto the activities in the textbookand languagefunctions. The teachers havealso claimed that the language used in the textbook is atthe right levelofstudents’ current English ability. While analyzing the drawbacks,thetextbook does not meet the teachers’ expectations in terms of the layout and design,appropriate balance of the four language skills andpresentation of the grammar andSubject matter. Furthermore, the language in the textbook does not represent a diverserange of registers and accents. This thesis has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter isintroductory in nature which deals with background of the study, statement of theproblem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study,delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. The secondchapter incorporates the review of related literature. This chapter deals with review ofthe theoretical literature, empirical literature review, implication of the review of thestudy and conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with the methods andprocedure of this study. It consists of research design, population and sample,sampling procedures, sources of data, data collection tools, data collection proceduresand analysis and interpretation procedure. Similarly, chapter four encompassesanalysis and interpretation of data. Finally, thechapterfivedeals with findings,conclusion and recommendations of the study. And in the final section, references andappendices are included.
