Abstract: This study focuses on the students’ enrollment in optional mathematics at secondary level of public schools in Kathmandu district.The main objectives of this study was to find the achievement level of boys and girls students and to find out the enrollment of students in optional mathematics at secondary level of public schools in Kathmandu district.To carry out this research, I have selected sixty three boys and forty five girls students of grade IX were chosen for the study in different public schools of Kathmandu district.Also, I have selected10 Head teachers and 10 Subject teachers of 10 public schools of Kathmandu district were taken as sample of the study.Stratified random sampling was used for the process of sampling of the study. This study was survey type and the design was both qualitative and quantitative in nature. The student's questionnaire form,different achievement test,interview question for subject teacher and head teacher and school administrative records were the main instruments/tools for the data collection.Such collected information's were analyzed descriptively according to the constructivism theory.Z-score test was taken as the test statistics significance. This study concluded that the achievement of boys and girls students was probably same in optional mathematics in public school.Similarly, there were many causal factors for their low enrollment.The study showed that economical status of parents, negligence of parents, interest of the learners,negative thinking towards mathematics,peer`s behavior,teacher’s behavior were strongly in fluenced and occupation of the parents, student’s learning time,trend’s of society were weakly influenced for the low enrollment of students in optional mathematics.
