Abstract: This research,entitled as Challenges and Opportunities of Multilingual Classrooms was an attempt to explore out the challenges and opportunities of multilingual classrooms and to address the methods and techniques used by the teachers in multilingual classrooms. Narrative inquiry research design was followed to complete this study. The sample of this study was selected using purposive, nonrandom sampling procedure. The primary data were collected from six basic level English teachers of six different community schools of Dharan, Sunsari. Semi-structured interview was the main tool for data collection. The collected date were analyzed and interpreted by using thematic analysis in descriptive and qualitative way. The findings of this study shows the challenges they face during taking multilingual classes are MT interference, problem in adjustment, problem in content delivery and comprehension,and lack of appropriate teaching materials. The opportunities they get from multilingual classrooms are; linguistic and cultural interaction, developing students’ creativity and professional development,collaborative and creative learning environment. This thesis contains five chapters. The first chapter deals with the background of the study, statement of the problem,objectives of the study, research questions,significant of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of key terms. The second chapter comprises review of related literature including theoretical literature, empirical literature, conceptual framework and implication of the literature review. Likewise, the third chapter consists of methodology/methods and procedures including research design and method of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, study area/field, data collection, tools and techniques, data collection procedures, data analysis and interpretation procedure and ethical considerations.Similarly, the fourth chapter includes analysis of data and interpretation of results.And the final chapter deals with the conclusions and implications based on the result sand discussions of the study. The references and appendices have been included in the last part of the thesis.
