Abstract: The research work entitled Translation of Metaphorical Expressions in the Novel Khalangaamaa Hamalaa is an attempt to find out the techniques employed in translating metaphorical expressions and the degree of correspondence deserved in the translation of metaphorical expressions found in the novel Khalangaamaa Hamalaa. The study followed case study research design. The data were collected from the secondary sources. The metaphorical expressions from the source language text were taken as the sample by applying purposive non random sampling method. Observation checklist was used as the data collection tool. From the study, it has been found that the translators used different techniques viz. sense translation, literal translation, substitution, borrowing, addition and omission while translating the metaphorical expressions. Among them, sense translation was the most frequently used technique and omission was the least used technique while translating the metaphorical expressions from SLT (Source Language Text) to TLT (Target Language Text). Similarly, the translators maintained three types of correspondence viz. total, close and null correspondence in the translation of different metaphorical expressions where close degree of correspondence was the most deserved correspondence by the translation. In contrast, null degree of correspondence stood the least deserved. The study is divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with general background, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. Likewise, the second chapter deals with the review of theoretical and empirical literature and conceptual framework of the study. The third chapter deals with the methodology and design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, sources of data, data collection tools, techniques and procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedures of the study. Similarly, the fourth chapter includes the introduction, presentation, analysis and interpretation of the data. Finally, the fifth chapter deals with the findings made on the basis of the analysis and interpretation of the data. It also presents the conclusion of the study and recommendations in which some pedagogical implications of the study have been recommended. This chapter is followed by references and appendices.
