Title: Verbal Morphology in Dangaura Dialect of Tharu and in English: A Comparative Study

Abstract: This thesis entitledVerbal Morphology in Dangaura Dialect ofTharu andEnglish: A Comparative Studywascarried out toidentify morphologicalsystem of Dangaura verbs and to find out morphological differences betweenDangaura and Englishverbs.To meet these objectives, I used both primary andsecondary source of data. This study was based on 40 Dangaura nativespeakers, including 20 illiterate and 20literate.Those informantswere selectedthrough purposive non-random sampling procedure from Lamahi municipalityof Dang district.Similarly, questionnaire for literate informants and interviewschedules for illiterateinformantswere used as tools to collect the data. Thecollected data were analyzed and interpreted descriptively.Aftertheanalysisofthe data;it was found thatDangauradialect has more number of verbal morphemesin comparison to English,such as;/ũ/,/ɪ/,/ͻ:/,/θ/,/l/,/k-lǝg-bǝt/,/t/,/rəhəl/,/klǝg/and/nαɪ/.These morphemesare more complex than English. This study is divided into five main chapters. Chapter one deals with theintroduction of the study. It consist of background of the study, statement of theproblem, objectivesofthe study, research questions, significance of the study,delimitationsof the study and operational definition of key terms. Similarly,second chapter deals with the review of the related literature and conceptualframework. It consists of theoretical literature, empirical literature, implicationsof the study and conceptual framework. Likewise,third chapter deals methodsand procedureswhich arefollowed in the study, under this chapterthe sample,sampling strategy, research tools, sourcesof data, data collectionprocedure,analysis procedure, delimitationsand ethical considerationsof thestudywere discussed.Moreover, fourth chapterdeals with the analysis andinterpretationof the data. The researcher presentstheDangaura verbalmorphemes withexamplesand morphological rules. Finally, chapter fivedealswith findings, conclusionand recommendations. The researcher presentsidentified verbal morphemesof theDangaura dialectandsimilarities anddifferences between Dangaura and English morphological system. On the basisof findings,the researcher concluded the study andrecommended some pedagogical implications.Then,the referencesand appendicesare included atthe end.
