Abstract: | The current research entitled“The Truce between Dignity and Desire in Philip Roth’s The Professor of Desire”examines the issue of sexual feeling and desire of ahetero sexual male who loses morality and dignity This research aims to show the mental condition, irrationality, immorality, sexual vulgarity, and criminal mentality of the literary character a Jewish family in American cultural background. Under standing the issue of psychic desire will help my audience understand human behaviour in a better way.In order to the examiner and analyze psychic desire and its role in shaping human behaviour, this research applies concept of psychoanalysis.I have used sexuality, concepts of lacansmirror stage and the concept of repression and the concept of identity. This is a qualitative research based on library research and textual analysis. In this thesis, the concept of Psychic desire regarding the psychoanalysis theory developed by Sigmund Freud is applied. Based on the textual analysis of different critics and library based materials, the researcher finds that there isatruce between the desire and dignity.
