Abstract: This study entailed “A Sociological Study of Single Women at Bhimdatta Municipality,Kanchanpur” was carried to find out actual situationof single women.And research questionswere related to social status of single women and economic status of the single women.Thespecific objectives of this study were: To find out the social status of single women, and to findout the economic status of single women. This study was descriptive with qualitative andquantitative research design, 40 single women were purposely selected as the respondents of thisstudy. Qualitative research method was used. Information was collected about social andeconomic status of single women. Among social status, causes and types of domestic violence,and in economic status, property rights, employment status were analyzed. The required datafrom interview schedule were collected and cleaned, grouped and tabulated manually. The datawere analyzed, interpreted and presented with helps of contents, tables and graphs and finallyconclusion has been drawn. Most of the respondents were literateamong them 55 percent were under SLC, however stillthere are 7.5 percent illiterate but they have known about what happening in the country throughmass media. Majority of the single women perceived physical violencewho were negated by thefamily due to being single. Main causes of domestic violence against single women were socialand economic status.Single women were cheated by their family members during the propertydistribution. From the above mentioned findings the main causes of social and economic status of singlewomen was poor and suffered from domestic violence. The economic status of the single womenwas worse, however some of themhave covered their living style during the daily wage, privatejob etc.The conclusion of the study was single women getting lower social status and their economicstatus was decreasedwhen they became single. Their social status was also vanished with theirhusband’s death. Most of the family tried to cheat during their property separation. Due topatriarchal social system single women being the victim of the victim and are blamed asAllachina, Poitokuwa, jyanmara, Radietc.The society has perception that single women shouldremain as it is they are and not any further adjustment and change and improvement. The stateand society should perceive single women as equal to men.
