Abstract: This thesis tries to examine how internal migration was able to bring out changes in the livelihood of the people from Tanki Village especially the men and why they choose to migrate permanently in such a large number. The main aim is to explore the reasons behind their migration and why they are not retuning back to their birthplace. They left a very underdeveloped place and went to Kathmandu which was one of the most developed places of Nepal in the early times. The migrants had migrated to urban areas and were they able to bring out changes on their livelihoods and what kinds of impacts the village is going to suffer due to migration. Therefore, the study is focused on the socio-economic livelihood condition of the migrants from the Gurung community from Tanki Manang village ward number 7 (VDC 3).The study tries to focus on the livelihoods condition of the migrants and the condition of the people who choose to stay behind the village and the effects migration has brought on the lives of all the people from Tanki Manang. The respondents were taken from Swoyambhu areas from Kathmandu district which lies in province no.3. After they were provided with license to do business in especially around South East Asian countries like Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, but they visited other Asian countries as well for business purpose like India, Hongkong, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia etc. After they were provided with license for doing business with South East Asian countries most of the man from the village started to migrate and slowly they started to take their family members as well. The study was conducted to know the impacts of migration on the lives of the people who choose to migrate and in the effects it had on the village as well and to understand its present situation as well. Primary data were collected with the help from unstructured interview through simple random 15 households were selected or respondents (early migrants). The result show that majority of the respondents were either first or second generation migrants. Most of the respondents revealed the answer about why they choose to migrate permanently, the living condition of Manang was not very good and the village lacked in many ways no proper facilities were provided for the villagers they were living in a very poor condition. After they migrated they were able to enjoy all the facilities provided by the government which was impossible in the Tanki Manang so most of the migrants decided to stay in Kathmandu permanently.
